Hey everyone,
I am in Canada and I cannot find any tortoises on morphmarket in Canada. Is this a bug? Or is it unfortunately just barren. There only seems to be a handful of breeders and while they are great it feels like the hobby is dying in Canada (mainly because of our stupid rules).
Either way I specifically want an Egyptians or a western. I know of the one breeder in canada for Egyptians however they are $2k everywhere and it’s insane
Other then that I am told NO ONE has any westerns. I was hoping maybe someone here may know of anyone that might? Or knows another Egyptian breeder.
Thanks!
Finding torts here in Canada is getting difficult. Not really sure why. Maybe laws or could be the cost of keeping. Idk.
I went looking a few years back because I live in the desert area of b.c. and have a decent fenced yard which, I think, would be a great place for a few.
I know one breeder that had a sizable herd of sulcata but I have no idea if he still works with them.
I found one other person that has a couple rescues. I know one is a marginated but not sure what the other is. I think it’s a Herrmans, He isn’t a tort breeder.
I will inquire.
Thanks buddy.
Yeah idk why but it’s clear the hobby is dying in Canada unfortunately. Part of it is definitely because you can’t import or export anything. It’s very dumb.
I have had no problems importing. I recently brought 2.2 white lipped pythons from Austria. Went very smooth, actually. It wasn’t inexpensive. You definitely need to be aware of what is and is not allowed though.

And, I don’t think the hobby is dying. It’s just that we need to get together and stop the fear mongering that the “humane” societies use to steal our hobby from us. People are leary about it so we hide.
That’s too much politics for this forum I think. I’ll put my soap box away.

Yeah, I was going to suggest you look into importing a tortoise from the US. It’s not cheap, but I see people shipping animals between the US and Canada all the time. No idea what if any restrictions exist for international shipping of Egyptian tortoises, but it would be worth exploring if you can’t find any domestically.
