Below you will find picture of a DIFFUSED MATRIX!

You can clearly see the typical Matrix Pattern and then the belly… Complete opposites attract! Diffused whitish/reddish belly vs the Black belly from a Matrix.

This combo is simply amazing and.grows insanely well!!!

How can you tell that it’s diffused?

#1 its by comparison and knowing what genes are possible. Then the typical diffused belly pattern interfering with Matrix.

All in all i am very happy to explain why it is diffused and not how this IS matrix.

Diffused is to me a hard gene to work with.

Takes this with as much respect as possible to be conveyed over the internet in text form, but this looks to me like an unusual tessera not necessarily a new morph. Sometimes, especially when there’s a lot of hybrid dna in the mix, tesseras will have this motley-esque bow-tie saddle look instead of a stripe or mosaic look. And given that tessera was in the pairing and scaleless so emoryi dna in addition to californiae, I would urge you to do some test breeding first before promoting this as a new morph.
Best of luck that it is a new morph but given the pairing you’d have to prove that it’s not a tessera first and foremost.

I appreciate the feedback. If this project proves out completely as a failure i will be the first one to detail it!

IMO there is nothing tessera about the “base” morph, the black belly, and the normal banded pattern on front portion of snake and aberrant pattern towards the back end.

Now when mixed on with tessera, well it is indeed tricky as its completely new.

What is a community chat if we can’t have discussions about possible new morphs. 3 years with similar results, still decades of work!

All in all stay positive and #nostress

I have a clutch this year that sheds light on what may be going on here, but I need to do a little more research and talk to some people who know more about genetics than I do.

Can we have a hint? Please please please please please please please?

If not I may have to sick Elmo on you.

He shall swallow you whole!

Why do i keep getting off topic😀

That’s the cutest picture! Ok off topic! Shame on me! :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I’m pretty sure there’s some overlap between what we know as the selectively bred “banded” trait, this alleged “Matrix”, and Tessera itself. Again, need to talk to people who know more than I do.

Just wanted to chime in on this thread as I’m just now seeing it. I may have missed this in someone else’s comment, so apologies if so, but I think it is important to note that: 1) Hare Hollow Farm is absolutely correct about Tessera sometimes leading to aberrantly patterned individuals that greatly resemble the ones being dubbed ‘Matrix’; and 2) Sometimes Tessera can have all black or nearly all black bellies; and 3) There are examples of wild-type corns that have all black bellies also, so the black belly is not necessarily a result if any hybrid-derived genetics. I love to see new mutations in Corns but I have some doubts about this one unfortunately :(.
