Morning all!
My Sons 5ft ball python escaped 6 nights ago! We have searched high and low. My Sons skirting was off a just laid new carpets so we suspect he may be in the floor with the cozy heating pipes. We have pulled a section of floor up so easier for him to get back up. Have popped the viv on the floor slightly open and a couple of hides and water along the edge of the room. Im really worried, he already hasnt eaten for a few months! Shall i pop a furry in the open viv or one of the other hides? Any advice or ressurance hes not far and will return appreciated! Thank you ![]()
I don’t know how reassuring it is, but I had a 10-gram baby corn I hatched escape, and I found her within two weeks. I’d expect an easier reacquisition for a 5-foot BP! Good luck. If you have free-roaming pets, watch what they’re interested in.
I’ve had plenty of escapes with corns before an thankfully managed to fine them all. If you have any animals like a cat they might be able to smell where they are but you can also try leaving some food out somewhere warm to entice them with the scent. They are very hardy animals and some people have found their lost pets after weeks or sometimes months in a still healthy condition. Wishing you all the best with finding him.
Under/around appliances. Anything that emits warmth. Any gas operated appliances like hot water tank or furnace. The clothes dryer, refrigerator, tv, computer, really anything that is warm.
Next check places of high humidity. Under sinks, toilets, house plants.
Dark, snug places. If it can fit its head in, check.
Trash bins.
Laundry makes a great place to snuggle in. Check dressers and bin. Pull the drawers out, carefully.
Beds. Like laundry, cozy. Between the bed and wall.
High and low. They are good climbers.
Like @deanaii mentioned, watch your free roaming pets. They will probably key in on it.
Look in/at obvious places too. I recently lost control of a white lip during cleaning and he was found hanging in the window from the curtain rod. He was trying to reach the ceiling lights.
Warm, dark, little to no scent from people or pets. Start there.
Food and water traps are a good idea. Leaving a dead rodent laying somewhere is not a great idea but dirty rodent bedding might be better.

@emmielou Check all bookcase shelves……high and low but especially high……
I used baby powder to find mine. Sprinkle some on the floor and hopefully he leaves you some tracks. My escape artist was never too far from his enclosure.
