Temporary or not, I’d probably go with something more like a 15qt or the previously mentioned 5gal for a snake of that size. Small enough to feel secure but still large enough to fully stretch out and have some hide options. Though it looks like the bin @jenc1987 has chosen is perfect size.
What size bin is that by chance?
The bin is 8 quarts!
Oh ok! That’s a great size! I surely hope he eats for you the next time you try! to feed him!
OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
You lovely, kind, helpful caring snake lovers!!! Mocha ate!!!
His first meal since August!
I moved him to the 8 quart last Thursday as per many peoples advice, waited a week to let him settle, then tonight I dropped a very small fuzzy. As soon as I had the lid off, Mocha came at me like never before. He was striking the air, smelling everywhere, following my hand (thank god I use tongs). He acted interested in the mouse but I wasn’t hopeful. I closed it up, left him be, peeked an hour later and it’s gone with a nice fuzzy shaped lump in Mocha’s belly. He once again perked up, and was so responsive to my opening the lid, I think he was still hungry!
My relief is unreal. Thank you thank you.
My future plans are to leave him as he is, feeding once a week, and see if the consistancy stays before moving him to a bigger bin as he will need it (due to his length). I just can’t wait to actually get to handle him! I learned so much from you guys, you are an amazing community!
Fireworks are literally coming from your post!
. I love it and you made me day! I know what a relief it is to see your noodle eat after a long period of fasting!
You are right to keep him where he is until he eats consistently which should be awhile. That tub is plenty big enough for now and remember that they curl up a lot too. It’s kinda like a baby crib!
Consistency in the way of feeding usually results in consistency in the way of eating. And I know it’s difficult not to hold him but it is for the best for now. You will have plenty of years to play with him!
Again congratulations! I was kinda holding my breath because I knew there was some discussion about my advice on the size of the tub. But 8 qt worked just fine!!!
EDIT TO ADD: As he grows you might have to gradually increase the size of his tubs to grow with him until he gets some big boy size and weight on him and by then he’ll be ready for the wonderful home you created for him in the beginning!
HOORAY!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! i am so happy for you, @jenc1987 ! It is so wonderful that Mocha has eaten for you. That’s really terrific. I know its an incredible relief. Hooray, hooray, hooray! Hopefully he’ll decide that life is better with a full tummy.
Yay!!! Happy to hear he ate for you. I know what a big relief it is.

Now he is a show off and feeding from tongs!
He has been following me all day when I walk in the room so I offered a small fuzzy again, little guy took it right away. Thanks again for your amazing insight
I am so glad for you! Anytime you need advice someone here will be very happy to help!
That is so great! Unfortunately it is against community guidelines to post pictures with rodents being fed so you will have to have that picture removed. I wish it wasn’t that way because I think that picture with them halfway finished is absolutely adorable.
The problem is that rodents are pets to many people. Organizations like PETA use things like that for leverage against communities like us.
