Havent had this happen before but the rat seems to have gotten stuck at the legs in my snakes mouth ive been letting him work at it but its been awhile now hopefully he gets past them on his own and noone will probly see this before he resolves it but for the future what do i do if it happens again i dont want to pull it while hes trying to eat since that might hurt him but how long can he safely have it in his mouth like that its at the front legs but for some reason they splayed out so it gets caught at the corner of his mouth and wont bend so it seems like they r stuck? -afternote i was right he did get it down but it took him about an hour and a half to get past the leg
This sounds like the rat you were feeding him might have been too large.
What is this snake’s weight and how large was the prey item?

It shouldnt have been hes fed weekly he is 244 last weigh in and the rats hes getting are around 13 grams this 1 was 1 of the larger size in that batch i was going to ask for a little larger when these were gone but now im rethinking if he can actually or stay where hes at a little longer

I have a local breeder that i buy rats from so usually i just tell him about what size i need for all of them and buy 10 at a time for each snake so i can run them low before needing to buy again since they are still young and have been growing fast

Was he eating it butt first? Or were the legs stuck in rigor? They should kinda naturally slide back if it was head first.
Sometimes frozen thaw prey get stuck in weird positions. As gross as it is to handle, you may need to consider cutting a leg off or breaking the bone and muscle so it is swallowed easier. This is pretty rare though. I’ve only had to deal with it twice over many years of keeping

That makes sense if the prey item wasn’t that large… It is gross but if I have any f/t prey thats stuck awkwardly in rigor mortis I just kind of move them around a bit until the body is relaxed and loose so it doesn’t cause issues for my snakes. It may work for your snake if the problem happens again

The legs could have been stuck weird in rigor it was head first i never really thought of that happening or checking for it since i never really had problems with it with the bigger ones ive fed the other snake and the ones ive been feeding him up until that 1

Ill have to start checking the legs beforehand between u and armiyana sounds like thats exactly what happened just hadnt had an issue with it before now hopefully it doesnt happen again anytime soon
