Feeding Young BP: UPDATE

Hey everybody!! Last week I posted asking for advice on feeding Nico, my six month male bp. It was pretty unanimously suggested that I move him into a smaller tub setup for the time being as the 55 gallon enclosure was just too much for such a little guy. Great news! It worked! I offered him food again last night for the first time since switching him to the tub, and it took several minutes of twitching the mouse around but he struck and ate it!! I’m so proud of him and so grateful to those of you who gave me advice. I was really not wanting to feed him live so I’m so glad that he’s finally eating for me

Hooray! I’m always glad when a plan comes together! In the wild if a snake feels vulnerable it will pass up food because the process of eating a rodent makes it even more vulnerable if a possible predator is around.

Your little fella feels nice and cozy/safe! Good for the both of you!:clap::clap::clap::clap:

Thats great news!

I’m glad things worked out in your favor, here’s to more success in the future getting him to eat in his larger enclosure!

Awesome! So glad for you!

It’s always great to see a new owner working to fix the problem and not just try to perpetuate an enclosure that is just not the right fit at the moment.

Give him a bit to learn his patterns and get him some confidence and size. Then you can always try the 55 again. At that point you can most likely see he is stressed or not just by the behavior he displays there.

I always want what’s best for my animals! Once i heard from multiple people that the bigger enclosure could be the problem i went and bought the tub the next day and spent a few hours drilling the holes and setting up his heat for the right temperatures. I think it’s the bare minimum to make sure your animals feel safe and comfortable in their environment. i’m just thankful to everyone who helped me out

Just so you know, you can buy a cheap plug in soldering iron to use for ventilation holes in the future. As an old lady :joy: I can use a soldering iron much easier than a drill! :joy:
