Fertilizer in perlite?

So I was wondering, is perlite that isn’t made for reptiles safe for eggs? I was reading the back of a bag of MiracleGro perlite and it has 0.49% fertilizer in it; I just need some opinions

yes there is perlite without fertilizer and the fertilizer will kill the eggs so don’t use it.

People get a little pedantic over hatching medium. Don’t stress if you can’t find clean perlite. I put 3-5 wet paper towels under a light diffuser, put press n seal over the tub, load it with eggs and put the lid on and forget it for 50 days. At day 50 I pull the cover. I’ve tried every method except the commercialized hatching mediums like hatch rite and I haven’t found a difference in efficiency in anything. I hatch 15+ clutches a year on $.25 worth of paper towels :man_shrugging:

The paper towels stay moist enough?

If you’re using press n seal (and you should) then it works just fine. I’ve hatched a couple hundred that way so I’d say it’s fine lol. No difference in my hatch rate vs using typical medium.
