Finally getting some chicks!

With my chickens i sit outside with them at least twice a day and hand feed them treats! It took a little bit but now most of the chickens (except for the three newest and youngest ones, and recently they’ve even started to be more friendly) eagerly come up to me every time i’m outside awaiting treats. They all tolerate petting and stuff, and some of them even like to be held and cuddled! I do find that they gain confidence as they get bigger, but consistently hand feeding them certainly speeds up the process!

I hand feed them all and Jingle does eat it. I think she knows I am not going to hurt her, just she knows that I could pick her up and wants to not have that happen.

Those guys are so pretty! I try not to eat chicken if I don’t have to. As a matter of fact I think I am going to become a vegetarian again!

It’s a lot easier than it used to be. I’ve been vegan for the past 4-ish years (not super strict about it, occasionally I make exceptions for fish/seafood and my favourite types of cheese, because those are the only animal products I really crave and sometimes my resolve crumbles :joy:). I tried to go vegan maybe 12-13 years ago, and it was SO much harder back then. There’s so many more options these days, especially at restaurants. These days I can actually go out to eat with non-vegans at normal restaurants, and most places actually have things I can eat. Sometimes there’s even more than one vegan option on the menu!

Yes I agree. I was vegan for awhile years ago but yeah I crave cheese milk and seafood……

Actually the Mediterranean diet is pretty close

I don’t think I could survive without steak . But when I am older I plan on raising my own meat chickens along with laying hens as I hate thinking about the conditions they are raised in. It is just sad to think about.

I definitely agree. I’m not vegan, and probably will never become vegan, but it’s sad that a lot of commercial meat is pretty unethical. Chicken and eggs especially. Go for local!

And I could never do without fish and shrimp, they are among my favorite foods.

Highly recommend this idea as someone who currently grows their own meat

Factory farming is the very worst inhumane animal abuse as well as some dairy farming. I was vegetarian for awhile and then vegan for that very reason. But a girl I worked with brought me a roast from a side of beef that she had bought from a farmer who raised grass fed cows and I took it home and cooked it. That is when I slipped…….

Yeah, it is. Some factories can be better than others, but then there are the bad cases… and those are just awful. It really is a shame there’s not more people using more humane farming, but I think that’s because there’s not too many people who care enough to stop eating factory meat, and at the same time don’t go as far as being vegan.
Around where I live there are lots of farmers raising Grass fed beef cows, and where am i now there are a lot of dairy farms that are pretty good in raising the animals though. So not everything is lost.

Exactly my plan too! If I’m gonna eat em, I’d love to at least make sure they lived a happy, healthy, enriching life first

They are looking great @logar! Do you have a favorite yet, or have you seen their unique personalities come out?

These are from last week when they turned 17 weeks old. They turned 18 weeks yesterday but couldn’t get pictures as the weather wasn’t great.

I could have sworn I replied to this already. Yeah they all have unique personalities but I kind of like them all equally. Star is always the first one to run up and say hi, Goldie is the funniest and also one of the friendliest, Luna used to be really skittish but now she has become really friendly and is very inquisitive, princess is also nice but seems to also be observant of her surroundings unlike some of the others, Prudy is inquisitive but keeps her distance and Jingle is pretty much just a mess lol. She freaks out is a tiny bird flys overhead, doesn’t get along with Goldie that well, and doesn’t like being around people but she is very entertaining.

Here are the pictures from last week. Princess seems to enjoy attention from the camera so she gets a few extra pictures this week.
