First ball python

This is Scarlet, my first ball python. My son fell in love with them after spending time with his science teachers snake. I got her at a local reptile store on July 10th. I didn’t weigh her when I first got her but weighed her around 8/10 and she was 78 grams. I felt like that was kinda small or maybe they sold her to soon and she is younger then I thought. She is now 100 grams and is about to have her first shed since I’ve had her. Does she look a healthy weight to you.? I worry a lot.

Does she look a normal morph.? Thank you.!

Nice to meet you and Scarlet, Brianna!

I’d say she’s looking pretty good weight wise, and if it makes you feel any better, all of my babies from last year were about 44g (this year’s were 40g and 70gs) when they hatched so it’s possible she started out smaller and they sold her once she had a few meals in her. But it’s hard to say without knowing when the shop got her. Since she’s 100g right now though, as long as she’s eating and isn’t losing weight I’d say you’re okay.

Welcome to the community!:slightly_smiling_face: I wouldn’t focus on the weight so much. She looks healthy and is eating that is what’s important.

Welcome to the community, I myself am new to bp. Your in good hands here. I hope you take care of the little guy. As far genes go like I said im also new but it looks like a normal bp to me. I feel like most pet stores only sell normals that is unless you go to a pet store that specializes in reptiles. Keep learning and enjoy the process. These slithery noodles are awesome.

She’s adorable!
And no, she looks fine.
Like other posters said, some babies just start out really small. But so long as shes eating shedding and pooping, she’s happy and healthy.
One word of advice, becareful about getting into ball pythons, they are like potato chips, you start with one, then wonder how you ended up with 5…

I feel ya! I have one bp currently, but I desperately want another! I’m trying to save space for other reptiles though, so I gotta fight the urge to get 500 ball pythons!
