First Lock for the 2025 Season and some possibility plans

I just put my first pair together today and they locked. It is a 1.0 Fire Double Het DG/Clown X 0.1 Pastel Double Het DG/Clown. I know there are some long odds but it’s what I have to work with for a possible DG Clown.

I’m not sure what else I will do this year. I am really trying to scale back the number of clutches I do as I am getting very close to retirement. I have some choices but won’t likely exceed 3 clutches this year. In fact, I may only do 2. I have the following possibilities.

I have a stunning Male OD Fire Double Het Pied/Hypo. I could either put him with a Proven Female Hypo het Pied or a virgin Female OD Pastel Double Het Pied/Hypo. One gives me better odds for Hypo Pied but the other gives me a shot at Super OD Hypo Pied, but with a possible risk of having Pastel in the mix.

I also have a beautiful virgin Female Pastel Lesser DG that is ready and I have a gorgeous virgin male Fire OD YB Het DG that I could put with her. They could produce some really nice DG combos, but there is nothing recessive.

The last possible pairing would be something Clown. I have three ready females I could use. There is the Proven Mojave Clown Het Hypo from last years Chocolate clutch. I have a virgin Russo Clown, or a virgin Lesser Leopard Spotnose Clown.

The problem is I am a little light on interesting male partners. I have a male Blackhead Double Het Clown/Hypo and the same male Fire Double Het DG/Clown I just paired with the Pastel Double Het DG/Clown. The only other male I have, I am a little hesitant about pairing because he is small at about 500 grams. He is 2 years old so he should be sexually mature. Because he was only 30 grams at birth coming from a boob egg, he isn’t exactly a full sized male. He is a Fire Red Stripe Spotnose Clown. Some of you here know him from other threads as Sir Fang. If I did try to pair him, I would definitely want to limit the times I put him with a female so as to hopefully prevent having him go off feed. With that I may not have success. Perhaps just two locks and hope for the best.

I hope everyone else is ramping up for an exciting season.

Congratulations on the lock (eager beavers aren’t they!). I am glad to see this post so soon because I can get an early start on practicing saying “No” to myself! :joy::rofl::joy::weary::weary::weary::weary::weary:
