So we have a spotnose lesser clown who is a year old, and doesn’t seem that interested in breeding. He has developed sperm plugs, any thoughts on this?
I think that it might just take some time, or he’s not mature enough as of yet.

I’m assuming your male is of the right age and weight to attempt breeding firstly. Patience is key - they gotta figure out what to do sometimes. There are also little things you can try to coax them into doing the deed, usually by tricking their innate sense of competition. If you have access to another male’s shed skin, you can put that in the female’s enclosure before introducing him, making him think another male is in the area. Also, another male’s sperm plugs smeared on the female can provoke a breeding response. I’ve heard that taking the male for a 10-15 minute drive can also be enough to stimulate breeding behavior, although I’ve never tried that. All said, you gotta be patient and let nature take it’s course.
Yeah. He’s ~800g. I think it may just take him a little time. Which isn’t a bad thing. It would just be nice if he’d lock with our leopard. Lol. I will try the snake shed for sure. Have some of our other male laying around.
Too much emphasis is put on the proper weight, don’t get me wrong the guidelines for both males and especially females is a good idea for newer breeders, but these are all individuals. When it comes to males I have had a year old less then 600g male breed and eat for me all season. At least in my experience that is not always the norm, this year I tried a couple different big yearling males and neither seemed interested at all. When I put my 2 year old male in with the same females it was almost instant action. Most of my successful breeding, no matter the weight of females or males is 2 years for males and 3 years for females. Occasionally I get 1 for male and 2 for female but very rarely. I would try the proven tricks that @chromatic_creations said. Although I never heard of the car ride one, have to try that myself! Don’t worry, he just plain and simply may not be mature enough or ready, not through any fault of your own, just individual differences of the snakes. Be patient, as long as your husbandry is on point it will happen! Good luck!
Try candles and Barry White. Might help.
Thank you for the advice. I will def try some candles for them hahaha.
That is funny right there thanks for the morning laugh.
