Follicle Development Stimulation

Hello,

I’m starting to breed ball pythons. I need to know the following:

Do I wait till the female developed follicles before pairing with a male?

or

Does pairing the female with a male cause the development of follicles?

This is what you’re looking for. Thank you so much, Gavin.

So from what I know females do have certain times in the year that they develop follicles, which are triggered by temperature change etc (so you have to adjust feeding, temp, humidity etc to trigger growth) but yes introducing a male will trigger it as well.

I would say both ways can work.
I personally dont bother with all the calculations or scans, I just observe behaviour and wait till the female is in breeding condition. its easier.
That means it can start any time in the year and my hatchling season is spread out over the year a bit which again is a bit easier to manage for me.
But thats just one way,

I did watch all those though and have to agree with the Gavin comment.
Here is another good set of breeding videos I also recomend

I will second that I don’t do scans or ultrasounds. I’ll check my girls once a month or so for follicles, but I start pairing regardless of if they already have them or not. If they go, they go; if they don’t, they don’t. I do up my humidity significantly during breeding season.
