Future Pet Projects (Feedback Helpful!)

The very best first thing you *should do *is have everything ready for the snake you plan to get well before you get the snake home so all you have to do is introduce it into its new enclosure, after a quarantine period of course……

So my plan isn’t crazy but is actually the right way, that must be my brain cell for the week all used up!

You don’t want to experiment on your new animal is you don’t have to……

Not crazy at all! In fact, it’s a great idea and I recommend it, especially if it’s a species with parameters you haven’t had to manage before. And then it ensures that everything is perfect and ready to go once you bring the animal home, and you’re confident in your ability to provide proper husbandry.

Perfect!

I had a thought today  I bet a corn snake could like a bioactive enclosure that was built around a cute little hobbit house/lord of the rings landscape

Oh no guys…I might need to add a GTP way down the list once I’m an experienced keeper. For a display animal only probably, they seem sassy and unhappy with handling for the most part

YES!!! YES to all of the above, including all the wonders of corn snakes. No secret here that I’ve been a corn snake addict for a long time. You’re going to love having one, @cmills. And YES to a LOTR enclosure. We’re all gonna look forward to pics of that.

Thanks for kind words! I’m always happy to help match people and corn snakes! There are lots of great breeders here (several in this thread!) so I’m sure you can find a good match. I do recommend that you choose one from somebody who handles their snakes regularly and can tell you about their personality.

Speaking of Allstar, I’m very happy to announce that, Lord willing, Allstar and Annelie should be the proud parents of beautiful babies this season! Last night was finally THE night. I’m tickled pink and had to share. You heard it here first!

Oooh I can’t wait to see eggs and pippies!!

Likewise!!! This will be Annelie’s first clutch, so hopefully it will go smoothly. Here’s the happy couple. The lighting is bad, but I didn’t have time to get a good picture this morning. Took a couple quick pics, separated them to feed Annelie, then had to go to the dentist.

Thanks! I’ve been planning for these babies since 2020, dreaming since buying the parents in 2021. Can’t wait!

It does. IT DOES. :grimacing: :upside_down_face:

Y’know, I realized I also absolutely need to create a toad abode enclosure (I know @logar will agree with me) and I feel that that sort of project would be pretty beginner friendly? Correct me if I’m wrong but at least common American toads are good eaters, can cohab with certain limits, and are pretty personable.

Plus, if Logan gets his toad breeding project running, I’ll have a breeder already chosen for my toads!

Pandora has been very cooperative. I moved them up from the basement, which was a mini winter for them, over a week ago and Spotify has had a little backpack since . I set up a small 5 1/2 gallon rain chamber as it was the only tank I had sitting around but I feel it is a bit small so I am going to set up their 20 or so gallon brumation tub along with a stronger pump and hopefully that will get Spotify in the mood. I am going to try the 5 1/2 gallon tank overnight first as it is already set up and can’t hurt to try. I am slightly worried though as Pandora hasn’t eaten in around 3 months and the only way I got him to eat was removing him from her back and dumping crickets in. He was right back on her back when I woke up though. They have also been spending an increasing amount of time in their large water bowl so that is a good sign.

I’ve gotta know what you guys think of this, if you recommend any additions I may not have considered.

Also, cresties/gargs are before a few of the other ‘easy’ animals because they don’t necessarily require live insects in their diet bc of the different diet mixes, and some appartments might be more chill with a critter that doesn’t require live insects or frozen thaw rodents.
