Genetic hypo

Dear Community,

I want to address some recent misconceptions regarding my Genetic Hypo project, particularly the claims that the Super Hypo (Black Eyed Leucistic or BEL), also known as Blizzard in our line, is the same as the Cappuccino and Super Cappuccino morphs. It’s essential to clarify that my Genetic Hypo morph is distinct and has proven to be healthy over multiple generations.

Key Points:

  1. Distinct Morphology:
  • Genetic Hypo: This morph is characterized by a reduction in melanin, resulting in lighter and often more translucent patterns compared to standard morphs. Genetic Hypo geckos exhibit a unique grey appearance as they age, with some individuals displaying head stamps.
  • BEL (Blizzard): The BEL, or Blizzard, is the Super Hypo form, showcasing a striking white body with yellow pigment and black eyes. Our Blizzard line has proven to be healthy, capable of reproducing successfully, and metabolizing calcium effectively.
  • Cappuccino: This morph is known for its darker, coffee-like coloration and unique pattern.
  • Super Cappuccino: The Super form of Cappuccino, however, is problematic. These geckos often suffer from calcium absorption issues and structural deformities, particularly in the nose area. Due to these health concerns, the Super Cappuccino is generally frowned upon in the community.Note on Lineage: The individual identified by Jere as a BEL comes directly from Mack’s lines, further substantiating the genetic distinction and authenticity of the morph. If your BEL is being denied on the website, despite established evidence that it is a different gene, I suggest posting proof of the lineage here to back your claim.
  1. Health and Viability: Over several breeding cycles, my Genetic Hypo morphs have shown no health issues. The oldest female, Bella, is 30g and thriving. This challenges the claim that BELs inherently suffer from health problems. Our Blizzard line has demonstrated the ability to reproduce, indicating effective calcium metabolism and overall health.
  2. Proven Genetics: The Genetic Hypo gene has been meticulously documented. I have a detailed page on my website outlining the genetic lineage and breeding history: Genetic Hypo Information.
  3. Community Support and Documentation: The MorphMarket community chat also includes discussions and evidence supporting the distinct nature of the Genetic Hypo gene: MorphMarket Community Discussion.
  4. Future Compatibility Testing: At this time, it is unknown if my Genetic Hypo line and Mack’s Hypo line are compatible. We are planning breeding tests and hope to have conclusive results by next year. This ongoing research will help further clarify and establish the genetic distinctiveness and compatibility of these lines.

Conclusion: The Genetic Hypo project should be recognized as a separate and distinct morph from the Cappuccino and Super Cappuccino. The evidence of health and unique genetic characteristics supports this claim. I urge the community to consider this information and to recognize the Genetic Hypo morph as a valuable and healthy addition to our understanding of crested gecko genetics.

Thank you for your attention and support.
