Getting females to lay in the layboxes

Hey all! I was wondering if someone had tips about lay boxes? I’ve set them out they had coco husk and soil in them at first and I had several females lay outside of them. I have now switched to sphagnum moss. They seem to like to use them for humidity purposes but is there anything I can do to encourage them to lay in the boxes?

What substrate do you use in the rest of the enclosure?

For laying females paper towel

Sorry been having phone issues. TBF they are likely to let in there as they like to dig when laying eggs. I don’t use a lay box as mine live in bioactive enclosures.

But years ago I did, I had substrate then too so they laid the eggs in their favourite spots, rather than the lay box.

Do you let the eggs incubate in the bioactive?

No they will be eaten by the insects

That’s what I thought! That’s why I was curious! So you dig up your plants then? How often would you say you check?

I tend to notice when they are carrying eggs as they look more plump so I only look once the plumpness has gone or once I see them crawl out from dirt.

I’ve had to carefully dig up a few plants lol

They don’t usually let near the plants, but I have one gecko that does  she’s also always in the dirt :upside_down_face:

I’ve been tempted to put them all on semi bioactives (no plants but bugs and leaf litter) but I just don’t want to dig up the whole terrarium every time :face_with_peeking_eye: but I’ve seen people putting this aquarium plastic over the substrate and provide a lay box but I I don’t know how determined they would be lol

Oh they are determined.

Not sure what this cover is, but if it’s down, doesn’t that defeat the object of bioactive?
