Meet Lydia! My new yearling female from Reptile Collective. She’s GHI Black Pastel Pinstripe, possible Black Head. Do you see Black Head in her? Thanks!!

personally I can see it being black head might be wrong here.

Do you happen to know what the parents were? I’m mainly asking because I would assume ghi black pastel pin would still show some of the pinstripe pattern. I’m a little confused why there’s almost no pattern on this one.

I can double check with her breeder on parentage on her, the breeder was really good with info on her. He said her clutchmates without pinstripe had much more pattern and the pinstripe seemed to wash out most of the pattern in this clutch.

hoping so! would love to get black head in some of her future offspring.

Got the parents’ genes! The pairing that produced her was Pastel Black Pastel GHI Pinstripe x Black Pastel GHI Mojave poss Blackhead

This is the pairing that made this girl!

Looks more like a pastel super black pastel to me. I don’t see it being a ghi pinstripe at all. I also don’t personally see any black head. If it was that combo it would be a lot darker and have pattern.

Here are some examples similar to the combo you listed. One with pastel added. One has ghost too, so it looks slightly blueish but you still get an idea.

Even if you did add black head to that, it would just be darker. It wouldn’t wipe the pattern out like that. Here is a pastel super black pastel. It looks like her.

@saleengrinch @t_h_wyman what do you two think? If you know anyone else that works with these genes more then tag em please.

I see no reason it couldn’t be, but obviously it’s going to be impossible to tell without breeding. It’s plausible that the blackhead is wiping out the dorsal stripe

Here is a Black Pastel GHI Pin I hatched recently. By the time it matures it will be closer to the color of the snake in the OP than how dark it is now.

These are not the greatest pics to judge off of but I am not seeing anything that speak to there being Blackhead in this.

I almost feel it is something like a BlkPewter GHI Mojave Pin

thanks this is great to see some comparisons! I am definitely thinking pastel is in there and possibly now mojave. the absolute lack of pattern is just wild to me. Love this girl and cannot wait to see what she proves out when she is old enough to breed! She is one year old right now. She has some neat paradox spots too.

also thank you @t_h_wyman for your input too! I’ll get some outdoor natural lighting photos of her uploaded today too. I’d love to see if she’s a black pewter or what else could be hiding in there.

thanks so much for this comparison! yeah the lack of overall pattern including dorsal stripe is crazy to me. I’m so glad I bought her though. She’ll be a really fun project!! Might have to get a normal male to pair her with and unlock what all is in there.

She didn’t have her best first shed cycle with me but I’ll spray Lydia’s enclosure and get her cleaned up just fine, so forgive the bits of stuck shed, but here are photos of her in natural lighting on a cloudy day. Hope this helps some more with ID.

Seeing these I am leaning harder into the belief that this animal is some form of BlkPewter Pin combo

I agree, the green/yellow fading toward the back looks pretty classic black pewter.

thank you @ballornothing and @t_h_wyman for your responses! It’s much appreciated. this girl has such a cool look to her and I had to snag her. It’ll be great watching to see if she changes at all as she ages into adulthood. She will definitely have the chance to prove out these genes when she is old/big enough.
