Heat panel getting way to hot

I just got in my heat panel from wilbanks and it’s have it on a thermostat set to 86 degrees with probe about 6 inches under the panel, but the panel itself is close to 200 degrees which I’m concerned is burning my snake. Any advice is welcome!

I honestly haven’t used them so I won’t be too much help…

But out of curiosity, how long have you had it running? It shouldn’t need to be on as much once it gets the area up to temp. I feel like the probe should also be a bit closer to the panel as well, but that could just be me.

Also you want to make sure the thermostat is set to a dimming or proportional mode so it doesn’t fully on/off every time making the panel ramp up to full power.

It’s been running for the last few hours, how do I switch my thermostat? It’s just a b-link one from Amazon.

I don’t believe that thermostat has the proper setting you need. You want something like a VE-200

The b-link thermostat is probably your issue. Those are on/off thermostats. Most RHP require a pulse proportional thermostat to function properly. HerpStat and Vivarium Electronics thermostats allow you to change the mode between dimming and pulse proportional. I’ve used both with out issue.

Ok thank you guys! I’m ordering one now, I appreciate the advice! I used the ve ones a long time and loved them should’ve started there.

Double check the specs on the VE therms as I am not sure if all the models have the pulse proportional mode. I think its the VE-200 and up that have it.
