Heating boost needed

Hi all.

I set Radagast’s tank up with a 50W deep heat projector as the primary heat source as I wanted something that could run overnight during winter and my research indicated that would work. However the recent drop in daytime temps here (not severe but noticeable) seems to be proving me wrong.

So my question is what should I look to upgrade to? I want this in place asap - he’s not at risk right now but as we are heading into the colder seasons I want to address this.

Pics of the little rascal as payment in advance, thanks.

Of course, he may actually have dislodged the probe for the stat (microclimate connect) so I’ll check when I’m home.

He had indeed knocked the probe. Cheeky gecko.

I do not know who told you that a crested gecko needs heat, but that is bad information. Cresties come from a region that does not have particularly high temps and the do best at “room temp”. Anything over about 25C (80F) sustained is not good for them. So unless you keep your thermostat set so low that you are having to wear a sweater in your house (obviously not the case based on these pictures of you in a t-shirt), you really should not be heating your animal

What are your temps like, both at night and during the day? Generally, they can handle nighttime drops to around 18c + - (mid to high 60s) just fine, so long as the temp gets above 22c (72f) during the day again, so most people wouldn’t need to keep the heating on during the night. Maintaining a 28c (82f) hot spot shouldn’t be an issue with a 50w DHP, unless it gets way below that, but you could try a halogen, if you’re able to turn it off at night:blush:

Thank you! This is how mine are kept! Room temperature. I have been saying this all along!!!

The dhp was bought to maintain proper temperatures during colder period as my room would be too cold for him. I was having a new gecko parent stress mainly. He is maintained at the correct temperatures as I did my homework before setting the tank up. Like I said I was having a little panic but it was largely just him being a cheeky little reptile.
