Hey everyone! I’m a chick living in Citrus Heights CA, and I just lost my beloved German Giant beardie Lord Ganondorf a month ago, and now I am looking for something that will be around for me to love it more than 6 years. We still have 2 females we adopted/rescued, but i’ll miss my big boy.
Just wanted to wave hi to everyone, so… I did! I’m looking at australian frilled lizards, australian water dragons or maybe a smaller type of monitor, but I am curious how well these lizards do with families, or are any of these like a one-person reptile? I know some of them will only let their owners interact with them, and I don’t want to bring someone home that won’t be happy with my family.
I have had bosc monitors they were good but you needed to be careful with what mood they were in when working around them cause i had a few bites an they dont let go lol i have chinese water dragons love them there easy maintenance but high maintenance to which doesn’t make much sense really but its because i have 3 so theres a hierarchy and when breeding season hits they dig the tank to bits looking to lay eggs if its females you have so if your not worried about fixing the mess up every now and again lol but they can an will go into hiding sometimes for no reason at all just because they can an come back out when it suits, you can lift them out from hiding but its your own preference if there at gd weights etc i just leave mines sometimes but there a cool lizard after shedding anol take on some brand new colours which is gd cause there always changing but they deff hav personality an smart they watch everything you do, but for me i would have to say if you can get frilled dragon get frilled dragons mines are like puppies they’re reli friendly some ppl get vicious 1s i duno if some are just generally vicious or dont like held or its how the were raised but i could watch my frilled dragons all day the dont leave me alone from banging the window 2 me for food or to be lifted etc or when they show off an open the frill it still gets ye everytime so i would deff say them they are active loads brilliant eaters they get attached to there owners an mines hav just never been sick or any problems with them so deff say those or chinese water dragon, but i love monitors 2 an wud hav 1 them again if i had the room so it really depends which suits your family best
An also my frilled dragons and chinese water dragons have been around my kids they could reach in and pick them up out of the tank if they wanted they have never bitten or even really threatened so to answer your question proper they will take to everyone they see regularly but mostly the 1 who feeds them but there easily handled even for kids just have to watch scratches from the claws and whoevers handling them are happy an not spooked letting thrm just climb where they want but you can get them really docile and relaxed around you
