I recently got a new ball python and hes already ate once frozen thawed he is a good eater, he stays in his hide during the day and explores some at night seems pretty healthy. I saw him poop the other day and it seemed like i could see alot of pink stuff come out while he pooped and then it went back in alittle after he finished pooping im worried it may be a prolapse.or.the start of one possibly? The tank is 88 hot side with 92 hot spot and 80 degrees cool side and tank stays about 65 percent humidity any advice is appreciated ty!!
I don’t think you have anything to worry about. It’s common to see some pink when they’re actively pooping. I think you’ll see that kind of thing quite commonly with other animals too. It is kind of weird that you stared closely at a pooping snake long enough to see the pink, but at the same time, good for you for being so attentive.
Have you checked on them after?
By pink you mean flesh, not fluids or anything, correct?
If there’s nothing peeking out from the cloaca then it’s fine. Better to be safe and check.
If there is a bit of flesh sticking out or if the area seems oddly swollen or there’s a discharge then I would recommend going to a vet that works with exotics.
So long as no pink tissue is still visibly protruding from the vent, I think he’s fine.
I would recommend lowering your hotspot by a few degrees, though. 88-89F is a better target temperature for the hot spot, 92F is a bit too toasty for a ball python.
Totally agree. Even 86 to 88 with a hot spot no greater than 90. But yeah the above is quite suitable. Actually ball pythons hunker down in stolen burrows in the day time in the wild. I think people believe that bps should be kept at higher temperatures than necessary……
