Help, weight check and strange scales

So I posted about this snake Nagini being overweight but since have seen these and wondered what they are.

Also more pics on if he’s overweight,

Adding to these 2 specs, when I touch or move them he doesn’t react at all

Those look to me to be his boy parts although i cant tell very well from the picture they do seem to be big but males have 2 “spurs” whatever you want to call them to lock to the female

ChatGPT told me it was scale rot and I panicked, I can see this now thank you

Understood, I did some research on the look of the parts just to be safe and they look exactly right

Any chance on the weight I panicked last week and everyone reassured me but wanted better pics now I’ve made better pics I think he looks perfectly healthy

No. Those are spurs. Both sexes have them and ball pythons cannot be reliably sexed by the appearance.

They’re more like what’s left of your snake’s feet than boy parts. The actual boy parts, the hemipenes are retracted into the snake and if those ARE visible then that can easily be an emergency very quickly.

This is absolutely not the case … Any answers that you get from an AI must be verified by research. A simple cross check would have given you easy reassurance.

These are normal

To me he looks ok weight wise but again others might be better able to tell

You’re right about the research, I just let myself be fooled into the AI trick.

But again I thought try the MorphMarket community, and rightfully so rather than panic for a vet visit, I got given correct info and could cross reference it from there

Good to know i didnt know females had them to i havent done a lot of breeding reasearch yet as mine are all to young i just watched the breeder look for them when he sexed my snake

As far as your baby’s weight goes, don’t let him get much heavier. He’s a bit hefty for an adult male… But since he’s a baby, his weight is still okay.
He’s probably gonna hit a growth spurt soon and get lanky again. =)

Oof. If that’s how the breeder sexed a BP for you then you may want to get that double checked if you do intend to breed at some point.

There are some species of snake that can be a bit more reliable in sexing by spur size…but a BP needs to have the hemipenes inverted to see visually, check how deep a probe goes into the vent, or send a sample of shed for sex testing.

He pushed around to sex him didnt use a probe i just thought that that was all he was looking for since i knew i wouldnt be able to espicially with a defensive snake he basically pushed at that part of him to see if there was anything in there

Thanks, so feeding wise I’ve got him on a weaned rat and so far I’ve fed him 1 time and plan on doing it every 5-7 days but after saying he’s in the bigger side I’m thinking should I change to every 7-10 days

I feed once a week for my smaller male (244) and the bigger ones get every other week also when u say weaned how big is that ive seen peiple have different opinions and sizes for the same thing

In the uk a weaned is not considered a baby rat but not considered an adult rat,

It’s somewhere in between and then in that category you get

Small medium and large,

I grabbed 5 medium, as they seem ever so slightly thicker than his girthiest part of body.

Our breeder said he weighed 260g before we bought him, and so I think that means he should’ve been on 26g food I believe, but a weaned rat medium would be 28-30g I believe

I haven’t weighed him or his food due to the common idea that provided it’s not too much thicker than his thickest part he should be okay, and considering he joined us last week Sunday, he’s eaten perfectly (I’ve heard BPs like to starve themselves) and he’s adjusted perfectly.

But given advice I’ll probably look at dropping his feeding schedule and moving it to bigger intervals

Ya thats usually a good rule to go by to i was just wondering since ive gone to different people and they considered when i said small different than who i had gotten them from i try to buy local instead of ordering online im just to hesitant on some of the reviews ive seen from online sites and its easier for me to just say i need this big in grams i go by the grams since my thought on it is if he overeats and gets chonky then he can eat chonky portions kinda like myself lol just cuz i can eat 2 burgers and fries should i lol i think the size is fine as thats around 10-15% just the frequency needs tweaked like u were saying

Thanks, I’ll change him to every 10 days but he’s really friendly considering he’s had his Viv for just 7 days and he’s already exploring and doing big tongue flicks
