Help, what's this snakes morph?

Hoping to find out the morph of my friends ball python. Can someone tell by the Picture?

I can certainly tell you that is not a Ball Python!

Its a Boa, but thats as far as I can help you because I’m not versed in Boa morphs or localities.

That is most definitely a boa, not a ball python. Looks like a normal/wild type to me, but the picture really isn’t good enough for an accurate morph ID.

Nope nada ball python! Yup it’s a Boa! Pictures of the whole boa are necessary to determine what morph it is.

If your friend also believes that this is a ball python, please let them know this is not the case!

The general care requirements can be pretty similar for both species, but the max size and cage recommendations are not.

Actually I am having a really hard time understanding how someone could mistake a boa for a ball python. I’m not trying to be rude at all but imho they look nothing alike. But I suppose it could happen……:woman_shrugging:

Lol I was kinda sitting here thinking…

OP’s friend is definitely in for a rude awakening once their “Ball Python” breaches 6 feet and 20lbs if they truly believed this Boa to be a Ball Python.

@tnsnakes77 please please tell your friend that this snake is not a Ball Python because this snake will get much, much larger than any Ball Python ever will… it will need a large enclosure and large meals once it is an adult.

While boas and ball pythons look very different to us, it’s worth remembering that most people aren’t as familiar with different types of snakes as we are. To people who don’t really know about that stuff, snakes just look like snakes. Though I would like to know who sold this snake as a ball python, because someone selling a snake they can’t even put into the proper family is a problem.

It’s also not a certainty this boa will get huge. Boas can be highly variable in size, and even among “mutt” boas who are a mix of localities, some still stay relatively small. That said, OP, I’d advise your friend to at least be prepared for the possibility that this snake will get 6+ feet, because that’s going to require a larger enclosure.
