Help with handling

Just looking for some advice. I got my 6 year old female Ball Python 3 months ago. I have a good setup for her with lots of places to climb and hide and explore. Her temps and humidity levels are where they need to be and she’s had her first shed and it went great. I don’t get her out for 48 hours after she’s eaten or while she sheds. And the times I have gotten her out it’s been during dusk when she would be coming out to explore anyway. The help I need is that she’s never out of her hides during the day, and the only option I have is to lift whichever hide she is in and gently and scoop her out of it. I’m just worried that I’m invading her safe space and somewhere that should be the place she can go that feels secure. I get her out once a week (except the times mentioned above) for about 5 minutes so I don’t stress her out too much and then put her back in. Is there a better way to go about handling her? If I try when she’s already out, she retreats to her hide and I leave it for a few days. She’s such a sweet girl and is very shy. I just need to be able to handle her so I can check that she’s still healthy and to clean her enclosure etc. I just don’t want her to feel like she has nowhere to go that she won’t get taken out from. She’s also never had an issue with food she’s eaten every time. I guess I’m just asking if it’s ok to take her out of her hides, and just looking for other people’s approaches. Thank you in advance

No worries ball pythons can learn routines so if you are calm when handling then so will she . what’s her morph ?

She’s a Chocolate bp

Yes it is perfectly fine to take your girl out of her hide during the day. I think you are worried unnecessarily. She is eating consistently so you are already doing right by her. Interacting with her a few minutes in the daylight hours will cause no harm. Ball pythons are naturally secretive as most snakes are and will retreat if given the opportunity.

The thing you need to be most concerned with is keeping her eating consistently. As long as she is doing that, a few minutes of handling is perfectly fine. But you will have to go to her because she won’t naturally come to you. Stop worrying and enjoy your snake! :snake:
