Help with morph ID (Lesser Bee?)

Hiya,

I picked up this gorgeous boy yesterday. I think he’s maybe a lesser bee, but I haven’t been in the community for over 15 years, so I am essentially a genetics beginner.

He doesn’t have a wobble from what I’ve seen. He fed today, and his strike was quick and spot on.

He wasn’t looked after well by the guy I picked him up from and is showing signs of getting slim, but as he showed today, he is eager and happy to feed, so I am guessing he just hasn’t been fed enough. He was only with the guy for a few months and was a present for his kids, and they lost interest. He said he is nearly 3 years old, but I would guess he’s not much older than a year. I say he a lot, as that’s what the guy told me, but I’ll buy a probe kit and see for myself. For now, he is called Crypto, subject to change following the sexing.

A bonus for me, though, as he is a lovely snake. He’s super friendly, so whoever had him before this guy had taken really good care of him.

So here he is, I’d like you all to meet Crypto and any help on morph ID would be greatly appreciated.

I would try giving him a nice warm soak as well. He doesn’t look too terrible body wise but maybe some hydration can help? His front and mid look okay but he does look a little thin or dehydrated from the back end.
If he does end up a male after probing, I wouldn’t let him get too heavy though. Male BPs can get horribly obese at times.

As far as morph goes, I would say queenbee. Lesser, Pastel, Spider. He has a really nice color for his age if he’s 3. If he is closer to a year then he may just be a lesser pastel and he may darken up a bit more as he ages

Can’t help with ID, though I’m sure somebody will. But oh my goodness, what a sweet face! Crypto has such a lovely expression and beautiful eyes.

I know right!! He has a happy looking face, as much as a snake can look happy lol. He’s such a sweetheart too, very calm and as you can see, he loves it when my hubby holds him. Think it’s because Dan is like a human hotwater bottle

I’m so happy the guys kids got bored of him, how that’s possible with this snake i have no idea, but their loss is my gain and i cant wait now to set him up a cool home as this boy is way to pretty to not have on show.

Yeah, I don’t believe he’s nearly three unless he’s been very sparsely fed, that, 's kept his growth rate slow. I have two 6-month-old normals, one het clown, the other het clown het desert ghost, and they have been fed once a week, and they are the same girth as him and not much shorter. So I would hazard a guess at max 18 months old.

I was split between lesser bee or queen bee, but because of the age issue, I couldn’t decide. Queen because he would mature and be on the lighter side, lesser bee if he’s younger because he will darken with age. I guess either time will tell, or I’ll cave and get him shed tested. Probably the latter because I’m impatient lmao

Oh, and yeah, he was super thirsty. When I put his water bowl in, he was drinking for ages. I’ll give him a soak in about 5-6 days once I know his food has been digesting well.

That’s the only sad thing about getting these animals as gifts for kids, some people don’t keep an eye on whether or not the kids are looking after them properly. I don’t blame the kids; the parents have a responsibility to make sure the animals are properly cared for. Not having any water or heat source is totally the parent’s fault. Any of my daughter’s pets are my pets, too. Although she is great with looking after them, sometimes she forgets to do the basics, but me and my husband are there as backup carers.

Okay, rant over, lol. Just annoys me when people buy kids animals and leave all the responsibility on them without stepping in. Not knowing basic care for a species these days is no excuse; a quick Google search will let you know the basics.

Man Crypto is one of those gorgeous animals that makes me shake my fist at the fact that spider has such issues, I love that saddle disruption and those pattern changes!
I know we’d all love to see updates on Crypto as he(?) recovers and grows for you!

From what i understand is, it’s an inner ear deformity rather than a neurological issue. That being said, you can end up with some spiders that are also kinked which isn’t good. Although that and the wobble also happens in other morphs, champagne i believe is one such morph.

I love spiders and how much it affects the look of any morph added to it. They are so pretty. I think some are trying to breed out the inner ear issue, which if they do, i hope more people will be a le to work with this stunning morph.

He is doing great. He’s such a sweetheart and is so calm with my daughter. He’s the only ball python she is happy to hold alone. He’s eating well and is also just about to shed.
