So. About 18 months ago inoroduced two snakes from a pastel special Gravel x lemonblas vanilla yb pairing. I produced these two white snakes and convinced myself that the male was a YB and not Gravel and these were Ivory combos. The interesting thing is the male produced visual highway combos both with its previous and new owners, picture included of this years gravel. So the question is… what could these two be?
There are no additional genes in either parent and the female has been proven vanilla.
Thanks… i understand how the YB and Gravel complex works . Thanks for sharing the link though. What im trying to figure out is that in the pairing i mentioned with one being Gravel and one YB then i believe these are some sort of Gravel animals (the offspring in question are the two larger animals which are now 18 months old) they are yellow and white
Pics of the parents could be useful here. It’s possible the parents weren’t labeled properly or just to give a better insight into how they looked. So if you have those available, I’d add them to the post.
Vanilla super pastel pinstripe highways are my bet.
You can have the sheds sent out to test for a few of those genes.
Beautiful animals.
The eyes look too dark to me, but Logan may be right about a hidden BEL gene on the female since super special does produce offspring with color like that as well.
Edit to add: Your male cannot change mutations. If he was a highway, yes these could have been ivory. But if he’s been proven in the past as gravel, the only way to also pass yb would be for him to be highway.
Thanks for all the input and suggestions… really appreciated. Here is the mum who is a pastel pinstripe vanilla yellow belly. I have had 3 clutches from her and only ever seen those 4 genes in the offspring so I’m confident she is what she is.
Also the sire was bought as a pastel special gravel and had produced highways with tye previous owners. Pics of both parents below. The 2 offspring in question have jet black eyes which lead me away from the bel complex.
Thanks for your feedback. The male who sired the clutch was gravel not highway. He produced highways for previous and future owners so was definately gravel… its a head scratcher for sure
If it’s still confusing, I would have them tested. I’m pretty certain the first would still test as highway
The second and last snakes you posted have pretty obvious pinstripes. I have the feeling they might be only YB or gravel, but have a very nice expression on pin, super pastel and vanilla.
This is the larger yellower snake in question as a hatchling. Theres the slightest hint of a grey line on her eye and on her spine in places which has now almost dissapeared
