This tank is definitely not the right one for a ball python. Ball pythons are terrestrial so the enclosure needs to be much longer than it is wide.

The tank in the picture is for arboreal snakes such as ATBs

I agree with Caron on that tank space.

I can’t tell if the substrate is sand or something else, but if it is sand you would want to mix it with something else like coco, soil or some moss. Ball pythons need humidity to be comfortable.

Ground cover would be best in any kind. You can use fake plants or leaf litter. Or just different hides. Ideally you want two hides anyway.
The water dish will need replacing because as is it will be tipped over constantly and that can cause a bacteria or fungal breakout in the area around the dish if you’re not careful.

i don’t know the heating situation…
If you are only using the lamp above for heat, you will also want to add a thermostat regulated heat pad under the enclosure to provide warmth at night.

this is a link to a video of a ball python setup that would be much better, but personally i would add more foliage.

and also add a humid hide

Solid advice so far. I highly suggest a PVC enclosure, they make maintaining temp and humidity much easier. Check Marketplace and Craigslist to save $$$ For substrate the COCO Chip holds water and maintains humidity better than anything I have ever used. Don’t get mixed up in a full BIO setup, save that for later down the road, master the basics first. Heat must be regulated with a good thermostat, the little dial on the cord isn’t a thermostat, get a real thermostat that will maintain a set temp. Amazon has them for under $25. Find a good food source in your area or buy online. Not the cheapest food source but a quality food source for frozen feeders. There are several in the top tier and everyone has their favorite. If I can answer any specific questions just ask. This is almost a perfect copy to two other threads I have replied on tonight. Most common questions have been asked multiple times so reading this forum is a great source of wisdom that can’t be had in other places. Congrats on your BP they make great pets when cared for properly.
