How do you feed your reptiles when you're on vacation?

I’m going on vacation for about two weeks, and was wondering what you guys do to feed cresties during that time? I will have someone doing it, but was wondering what I would/could do if there wasn’t someone to help? Or do you have to have someone do it for you?
Thanks in advance!

Imho cresties need to be looked after on a daily basis ( fresh water, fresh food, misting, etc) so I think it’s imperative that plans need to be made for someone to look after your cresties while you are away on vacation. :+1:

That’s what I thought.

I usually have someone to check on them, but they not a reptile lover so I make up the food in pots before I go and freeze them so all they have to do is switch the pots around and water although I’m looking into a misting system so only the food to worry about.

Would be great if there was a place to put reptiles while on vacation or something though

My local reptile shop does, but they only have a few enclosures so not helpful

Ok, I do have something arranged.

I’m glad you were able to arrange something @crestie-lover . :slightly_smiling_face: Just to add another idea for others who may be reading this- I have hired a friend/acquaintance as well as a professional/accredited exotics pet sitter I found online.

I actually had an incredibly positive experience with the pet sitter I hired. I had/have a bunch of very elderly leopard geckos, and one was very sick at the time (Rasputin). Despite providing high quality veterinary care, it wasn’t clear exactly what was wrong, so it was a situation where I knew he might suddenly pass while I was gone. I felt compelled to go on the trip, as it was for my sister’s wedding, but I would be gone for a week.

A few hours before my sister’s ceremony, Rasputin did pass away, and I was kinda freaking out (in addition to the grief). I wanted both a necropsy and an individual cremation with clay ‘paw,’ and I wasn’t sure how to get it done when I was across the country and not returning for a week. But my pet sitter followed my instructions to a T. She immediately brought his remains to my reptile vet, and passed along my emailed instructions. She made sure his remains got there the same day, so that the necropsy could provide the best info. She didn’t even charge any extra for something that I’m guessing many pet sitters wouldn’t even consider doing. Needless to say, I left her a great review online and a sizable tip!

WOW! That does sound amazing, especially since your pet passed away, and she took such good care of it. Thank you for the idea  :ok_hand:

That sounds amazing (not the death of your reptile). I wish there was something like that available near me

I keep snakes that only have to eat every 14 days so when I go on a week vacation, all I have to ask is for my sister to change water once or twice :upside_down_face:

Lucky you

I have snakes that can go months without eating, so they don’t really need to be fed while I’m away. At most they might need fresh water, and one might need a quick misting. If I’m only gone for a few days, they can usually just be left alone.

However, I also have mammals (cats and a chinchilla) who do need to be fed every day, and I usually recruit my roommate to look after them. If my roommate is going to be unavailable (or I end up with a future roommate who isn’t willing), I have a few friends who would be willing to stop by my place once a day to tend to the critters.

I also have a friend down the road who is willing to do it.
