i have just brought home a beautiful adult ball python from the reptile shop I work at. The problem is, I live on a roundabout which means theres basically passing cars constantly. My bedroom (where her viv is) is facing it. Theres no other place to move her vivarium, I’m just wondering how to make it less stressful for her?
in the day, I put a blanket over the front of her viv so she feels more secure. Is there anything more i can do?
Is she showing signs of stress (refusing to eat, pacing the enclosure restlessly, being defensive when interacted with)?
If you’ve covered her enclosure with a blanket you’ve blocked all visual stimulus from the outside world, she shouldn’t be bothered by anything that isn’t in her immediate vicinity at that point. If her enclosure is lacking in hiding spaces you can add more hides and fake plants to help her feel more secure.
If it’s the sound of cars passing through the area that’s freaking her out attach sound blocking/dampening panels (used for blocking outside sound by music makers.) to the outside of her viv! Adding more hides and clutter In general will also help with reducing potential stress.
If your adult girl was living in a, I’m guessing noisy busy pet shop and eating, well it is my guess that she will be fine living in your room regardless of the round about. All of my reptiles (snakes included) (including ball pythons) live in my room and I’m right next to a round about myself. Nobody seems stressed and everyone eats consistently. You should have no worries!
