How much does your humidity kick up at night? Mine seems to get up to 90%. How can i make it dryer? In the daytime its usualy a good humidity, but its kicks way up in the night. I added photo so i can show you all the temporary set up.
Do you mist that tank during the day? I think you have asked this question before? I don’t understand how the humidity can go up at night that much? It should stay at a constant percentage around the clock……
No. I did recently change substrate though. I also tried to add more to try and offset the stuff i wet. I use a mixture of coco chips and coconut coil.
So is this the stuff that comes in a block?
Yes, it is. I know different people use different bedding. I’ve just heard this stuff holds humidity well. It has been raining a lot in my area, but does rain affect indoor humidity?
How much does the temp drop at night? Iirc the lower the temperature the less moisture in the air for 100% humidity
So if your hotspot is like 90F and humidity at 60%, but then your temps at night drop to like 70 for a bit, then that could “raise” humidity?
I’ve noticed at night the glass on my terrariums will fog up as the ambient temp drops from the 80’s down to about 70-72
My best advice is probably more ventilation or a dehumidifier.
Ok yes rain will raise humidity indoors. The easiest correction would be imho to completely remove the current substrate and change to something like shredded aspen. You can buy 7 cu ft of shredded aspen (horse bedding) at tractor supply for about 7 bucks and change. Any substrate you add water to is automatically going to raise the humidity. Aspen is nice and dry which in you case is better. And the shredded aspen substrate is even a finer grade than what the big box stores sell……
Whats the ideal humidity?
Between 50 and 60 percent
What about when shedding? The reason why i got this is because it was dryer like 48%. She has the reptile mat that came with her but i thought she needed more humidity because poor little girl was trying to get humidty by being in her water bowl
@dzag Are you on the east coast or somewhere like Seattle WA? You must live in a damp climate?
Sometimes when they sit in their water bowl they are trying to rid themselves of mites. If mites are not the problem she may be in the shed process. You can always move the water bowl to the warm side or use a larger bowl when she is shedding to boost humidity
I’m around pittsburgh which is not super humid most of the time, but recently its been rainy and cold
Yup I think I would go with aspen……
I think it’s easier to raise the humidity as opposed to lowering it
Its funny because i moved here about two years ago and came from New Mexico where its very dry and i also have lived in Las Vegas, NV again where its very dry. I’m still getting used to the weather out here, but i was assuming aspen is for a place like Florida and that humidity. Thanks for the help
Such a pretty girl you have! I am in IN so it’s a humidity steam bath in the summer. I use aspen for my colubrids but I have also used it for my ball pythons and it works great.
Now I have my bps on reptibark and I like it as well.
Maybe I’ll try repribark. Figured i should show her off at any time i could. And you all appreciate snakes so its even better
Of course we love all reptile pictures! Anytime! Seriously though do you have a tractor supply near you?
With Repti Bark you still have to add water for the bark pieces to absorb and expand. I use the repti bark baby chips.
