Yes 52g is a good weight. But your pair may not be compatible. However I would not rule out the fact that they have mated. Did I say that right? Maybe they just need some privacy. As long as they are not fighting I would not give up. How long have you been trying? My tank is right next to my bed and I still haven’t seen any “activity” but I am getting eggs in the nest box. Do you have a nest box set up?
So far, I’ve introduced them to each other three times. I place the male into the female’s terrarium and observe them for about 15–20 minutes, but as I mentioned above, I haven’t had any success. During their first introduction, the male vibrated his tail quite intensely, but I separated them because the female wasn’t at a suitable breeding weight at the time. My nest box is already set up inside the female’s terrarium. They don’t fight. Usually, they approach each other, stay nose-to-nose for a while, and then move to different areas of the terrarium, where they seem a bit cautious or nervous : )
Ok so you need to give them more time. Like a day or two. And then just wait for eggs. I just don’t think you are giving them enough time…..
Yes, I might have been a little impatient
I will continue to introduce them to each other from time to time and I will be patient.
Your setups are too open. You need more hides for them. Leopard geckos need places to hide out in the daytime as they do in the wild. My guys usually come out at dusk/evening.
Here’s a pic of part of my tank.
They have several places to retreat in the daytime.
Ah yes patience is the key!
That’s a really secure setup for a gecko.
I think I focused more on the aesthetics than on the proper setup.
I’ll add a few more hiding spots to both terrariums this weekend.
I am a minimalistic plain keeper I suppose. I use paper towels instead of a loose substrate even though they eat out of bowls. I go for ease of cleaning and security first. I have a good friend who has been breeding geckos for years (I have 2 of his girls) and he suggested that I not give them too much height because they can fall and hurt themselves. So they have s lot of floor space.
Let me know if you’re successful with your pair.
Will do! Thanks for your interest. Hopefully they’ll pair up soon, and I’ll post an update.
Sounds good!
