Hi everyone! As the title says, I’m having trouble figuring out the sex of my leopard gecko. I’ve taken a few pictures and attached them below. I’d really appreciate any help identifying whether it’s male or female. Thanks!
Looks like a female. How old?
I don’t see any pores. But I am not an expert so let’s get some confirmation @armiyana or @cmsreptiles.
Looks female to me ![]()
Thanks Christina! I’m getting better! One of these days I’ll be successful at hatching leopard gecko eggs!!! ![]()

I also agree on female~
My gecko is 1 year and 2 months old and has a great appetite. I introduced it to my confirmed male for breeding, but it kept avoiding him. That’s what made me question its sex. Either it’s not receptive yet, or it’s actually another male. ![]()
Thank you all so much for your responses! I hope you’re right and it’s a female gecko..
If it was a male you would have probably seen some squabbling/ dominance between the 2. I have not witnessed any “mating” with mine either but I have eggs.
Either way the gecko in the pic is female. Are you sure your other one is a male?
If your gecko is over a year old and has reached breeding weight without developing a hemipene bulge or darkened pores I’m very confident it is a female ![]()
Unless you have a very late bloomer male- but I doubt that.
That happens sometimes, I’ve had proper breeding age and weight female reptiles of various species reject males and avoid them in the past. Your female might need more time or their parameters need to be adjusted somehwere, or there’s something going on with the other Leo…
I also don’t mean to be rude at all, but I’d try familiarizing yourself more with your Leos in terms of sexing them before you attempt to breed them again. You’ll need to be able to reliably sex their offspring after all if you’re intending on selling them.
This is why I’m wondering if the other gecko is a male
@batuhansygn Could you provide a pic of the other gecko?
Yup! The pores are definitely visible! Good luck with your pairing! ![]()
Thank you for your support. That really put my mind at ease. I hope everything goes well and I get good results. ![]()
I’ll keep the terrarium conditions suitable for breeding and let them try to mate from time to time. The female weighs 52gr , and the male weighs 68gr . Do you think the female’s current weight could be an issue for breeding?
Thank you for your help. Believe me, my goal isn’t to sell the babies it’s simply to experience breeding.
My hope is that all the hatchlings will be female so I can keep them all together in the same terrarium.
From what I’ve read on reptile forums, male vs. male and male vs. female can cause problems when housed together, but female vs. female usually gets along well.
