I had just fed him and wanted to pick him up on his way back to his hide and when I went to pick him up he wanted to slither right out of my hands so I just let him go.
Do they not like to be handled around eating time?

To be honest with you, and to my knowledge, no reptile “likes” to be handled. Some “tolerate” handling better than others, but most reptiles want to be left alone, Since your guy was headed back to his hide he probably had a full belly and was ready to digest.
However if you really wanted to pick him up you could. Since he just slithered out of your hand and didn’t bite or try to bite you I don’t think he was mad. Maybe next time you can attempt to pick him up on his terms, like when he is out and about exploring!
A lot of reptiles will be antsy after eating. It’s what a lot of us call ‘food mode’. It’s especially noticeable in snakes and monitors. They’ll be looking for more food and ready to grab anything.
Others can just be grumpy and ready to just find a cozy spot to curl up and digest
Yup! When I eat a great big meal all I want to do is stretch out and digest, and maybe snooze a little!
Ah, ok… yeah I figured it was something, like he wanted to just go digest. He usually lets me pick him up fine.
You should avoid handling your snake for 2-3 days after they have eaten to avoid them regurgitating.
Good thing this is a gecko
