I have an obvious tattoo of Jewel and Thunder Lizard . (Asian & Black throat monitors)It encourages people to ask questions.
I was contacted by the fellow who sold me my car last year, his friend needed monitor advice. His little Argus monitor had got loose in his house, i offered advice on finding it, sent picture of Gojira , my adult Argus. 6 weeks later, got a message that he found the lost lizard and was looking for a home for him.
I went to pick him up the following day. Little dude had been living under/near the water heater. He must have found food because other then being thirsty, he is in good condition. ( scheduling vet check for the little dude)
He settled in and started eating the day after I brought him home. Got him started on Dubia roaches and boiled egg. (He was living on mouse pinkies before he got out)
I named him Zilla.
Sunday i am going to help the previous owner set up an enclosure for his Quince monitor. (He is improving its diet and working on correct temps)
That’s quite a tale! Congratulations on you and Zilla getting connected with one another. He’s a fortunate little guy, to be sure.
Kudos to you for helping the owner get things straightened out for his Quince monitor. People aren’t born knowing all about how to care for animals. When someone is interested in learning how to do things right, whatever the species, it’s absolutely a blessing to have a mentor who’s willing to patiently help them. Thanks for doing this.
The sad thing is that he asked what i would charge him to help. After giving away a nice little Argus, he expected to be charged . Makes me wonder what kind of people are out there. It would never occure to me to charge someone for help.
Geez, poor dude. There are some miserable no-goods out there, for sure. But there are so many good people - you, for instance! You’re sharing your time and knowledge to help the little monitor you got
rescued. You’re going beyond that to help educate the human, which spreads the love. Sorry, I’m feeling a bit sappy tonight. It makes my heart happy to read this.
Zilla is adorable! Glad you were able to take him in, and it’s awesome that you’re helping his previous owner provide better care to his remaining monitor. Always nice to hear about people who want to do right by their animals and are willing to listen to advice, and it’s very good of you to help him.
