Hi, I’m helping a friend sell a couple of his corn snakes as he’s moving and can’t take them. He said this one is normal, but I don’t think so, what do you think? Sorry for the poor pictures.
Looks normal to me
Thanks for the quick response.
What color are its eyes? The color reminds me of an albino, but to be sure an eye picture would help. In the second pic, they look pink, let me know.
Normals usually have the red eyes too
I do know that, but wanted to make sure as the eyes are very light in color apposed to having black pigments.
That’s an amel.
This is what I was thinking, I’m a little confused at this point though.
Thanks everyone, I the eyes are pink but I don’t have a clear pic. I should get proper pics tonight and will add them then.
That is, 100% without a doubt, an amel. Is she pretty old too? She definitely doesn’t look in the greatest shape.
Looks like cloudy eyes?
Or is it just me? I’ve seen amels before and they weren’t glazed like that?
Yeah they’re definitely cloudy. It looks like cataracts due to old age to me, but could be old stuck eye caps. But the general condition of the snake leads me to believe she’s fairly old. She looks thin too.
So, @bad-rabbit, you have old amel!
She can be called Granny
I have a Grandpa and Gigi (fat tails)
They’re not old but I feel like amel fat tails look like old men so… Well Grandpa sure did haha. A moody old man face!
Do you know her age or her feeding routine? I’m wondering if her condition is age-relayed or perhaps health-related. If I was taking her, I would get a health check including a check for parasites. She definitely looks like she could use some additional groceries, and maybe some probiotics, too.
I’m a bit concerned about her mouth, as well. It appears that she’s holding it partly open. I know I’m reading a lot into a few pics, but is it possible that she’s got something going on orally? That could impact her condition.
He’s only 4-5 years old and the guy takes great care of them. He has a jag and jungle jag carpet both 7 feet that are perfect, he’s had all from hatchlings. I’ve seen and handled all of them and never noticed any issues. My buddy said this guy is just ending a shed so the eyes look like the way they do.
He does have any over bite which he had from a hatchling. He feeds 7-10 days, he prefers the smaller small rats buts eats well.
I got 5 ball pythons from him all in perfect health, and he breeds his own rats that eat better than I do lol.
That’s funny
If he’s eating rats weekly, then that level of thinness is very concerning.
Hmm. Cloudy eyes may be a shed cycle, and if the mouth is normal/long-term, okay. Pardon me, but I’m still concerned about the snake’s general condition. Shouldn’t be able to see the spine like we are.
Yes, indeed.
