I googled it and it turns out the gaboon viper does have a faster striking speed, the death adder is just one of the fastest strikers.
I do know that black mambas are one of the fastest land snakes combined with their aggressive defensiveness and numer of times they bite an individual and being able to raise 40% of its body off the ground makes it a very formidable species.
That’s funny because that’s exactly what I want to get as my first hot snake (which is likely a decade away). Northern copperheads are native to my state, so there would likely be some places with antivenom if I got bit. They are also just super cool snakes. Their bite isn’t deadly, so if I were to get bit I would still get serious consequences, but I wouldn’t die.
Copperheads are gonna be my first hot too. If I’m actually responsible and ignore my impulses. If I’m an idiot i’ll end up with an Indian cobra instead because dream snake. Either way I still have a long ways to go until I feel ready. I want to own several more rear fanged species for at least 10 more years without a bite before I make that jump
