I'm thinking about getting a Ball Python...

Hi guys! I’m thinking about getting a Ball python, (my first reptile!) and I need names for him! I’m thinking about Monty the Python, Severus Snake, and others. Do you guys have any name suggestions?

My first ever ball python was named Slytherin. My second was named Donut (because of her pattern). Now I have: Pancake, Enya, Autumn, Jigsaw, Boreas, Vulcan, Pandora, Excalibur, and many more. You can also go based on personality and name him after you get him settled!

Please, for the love of God, do NOT name your python Monty. I’m pretty sure that’s the 12th Commandment.

What are your hobbies and interests? Pick names from there.

The good part is you can change their name as often as you like. It’s not like they’re going to come when you call them.

I kinda like to name them based on looks + what interest me at the time… and then theres my husband who I go to when I don’t have any ideas

He named one of my male breeder BPs Jango on a whim as we were leaving the expo I got Jango from.

Shouldn’t that be Django?

My BP’s are Jorvacor and Boo lol so name your ball python whatever you see fit! Some people here have themes they go by based on their other reptiles so you can always do that. I created Jorvacor’s name when I was 13 to name the first snake I would get and sure enough when I was 17, I named my first snake Jorv. Boo is named after King Boo from Mario as he’s my favorite character from Mario and Boo was pure white except for the black splotch around his eye when I first got him and was playing Mario party the same day so I stuck with it :joy:.

I second the suggestion of thinking of interests you have and picking named based around that. I enjoy gothic literature, so I have a blood python named Mina (from Dracula…because she’s a blood python hahahaha I’m so clever :joy:) and an IMG boa named Lenore (from two poems by Edgar Allen Poe). I need at least two more female snakes, because I really need a Sybil and a Camila (I’ll be so impressed if someone knows what works I’m referencing with those).

I also have a sand boa named Phoebe, because I also like mythology and I got her before I came up with the gothic literature theme. :person_shrugging:

Is that because the 11th is don’t name your snake Jake Roberts?
I have seen a couple when I was younger because of the wrestler. Lol

Also Jango can be a Star Wars reference! Boba Fett’s dad

Thinking about getting a ball python.
Ha! Try it. Just one. Geez.
Naming it is irrelevant like @halfmoonlakeherps said, it won’t respond. But names are great for record keeping. For all 6, 11, 24 of them that your new addiction will have you acquire.
That being said, I have 11 of them, all different and all of them have names. I even use their names when cleaning/handling. Yes, I talk to them. Just like most/many pet keepers.
I use pattern elements sometimes. Sometimes it’s where they come from or in the language spoken in their range. An example would be Naranjas, an orange amazon tree boa. Or, Digit, a ball, because he’s marked with squiggly heiroglyphics. Flora, a Dumerils boa, roses running down her back.
Good luck finding a great name and please, send us pics when you decide.
