Inspiration from Nature

Hey all!

Went on a nature walk today that REALLy struck a chord with me and made me want to design a bioactive enclosure based on the mossy rocks, mossy logs, and lush undergrowth.

Figured I would share some pictures and also ask if you guys have every seen any natural scenes (in real life or from images) that are inspiring your builds, and if you’d like to share those (inspirations and/or builds), I’d love to see!

I eventually need to break down and try building out some enclosures. I feel absolutely terrible at replicating anything like a naturalistic setup.

These photos are so pretty though!

Sometimes I like to look at the really fancy aquascapes for ideas. But I’m afraid to start. hahah

Wow! All of those are amazing but that first one is just jaw dropping!

I have a couple that I think are pretty cool that I would like to try and recreate one day.

the ones bellow are all from Acadia National Park. I know the one picture looks edited but I swear it is unedited and that is actually how it looked in person

Exposed rock waterfalls/water…trickles? are the BEST and omg those last photos are AMAZING

It has been awfully hot and muggy and, well, awful here for a while. Our dewpoints yesterday were in the 80s, which is just absurd. I miss the sound of water flowing over rocks. These photos are gorgeous, and I feel refreshed for just having looked through these. Thanks for sharing!

I have an entire file of photos like this labeled “want to build”… If only I were artistic enough to actually be able to build them LOL

I do advocate for ZooPoxy as a build material. It is fairly easy to work with once you get the hang of it and is much lighter in weight versus concrete or grout or the like. It also paints well

I’m jealous of all the beautiful lush greenery and waterfalls you guys have! It’s beautiful where I live, but it’s a more arid chaparral type biome. I love the lush green forest aesthetic.

Here’s some pictures from a nature preserve right by my work. I hike there several times a week. It’s normally not this green, but we’ve had a lot of rain this year.

I mean those pictures are super pretty despite being arid, and many herp species would love a more grassland/bush area environment compared to a super humid waterfall one!

VERY helpful, thank you so much!

There is a FB group for it as well, though it has not been super active of late (at least not that I have seen, but I am also rarely on FB so…)

You can also talk to Mike Stefani from Mike’s Monitors, He has done a tone of builds with it and is a great resource

Oh, I definitely live in a beautiful place and I know I have no right to complain. I think it’s just a function of the grass always being greener (literally) on the other side. :joy:

Here’s a couple shots from yesterday.

Trying to enjoy the greenery and wildflowers while I can, before everything turns brown over the summer.

The world has so many varied kinds of beauty. Gotta confess, Jen, your photos have me crying to be on a horse and explore your nature preserve. Doubtful that would be allowed, but still.

Here is a good YT. This guy uses a lot of ZooPoxy for his builds

Not sure if this fits but there is a really cool tunnel through a hill behind my house and despite many attempts, I haven’t gotten a cool picture of it until I got my new phone.

That looks like a tunnel we used to bike through a lot. They’re so neat… not sure what kind of tank you could implement it into…
