What state are we talking about? And what area?

For example … In NYC even ball pythons are banned. But upstate NY can have ball pythons.
There’s a lot of small obnoxious ones from place to place, not a general countrywide one.

Say pennsylvania to ohio. Both reptile legal states. I belive there was a federal ban on interstate travel retics, annacondas, indian pythons ,rock pythons that passed? Is it tied up in court? I mean i could be wrong. Thats why the questions.

I would suggest looking on the USARK homepage, I believe they have clarification on the matter

I belive it was the lacey act. Was it overturned? Im getting confused.

The Lacy Act is a huge list of things and covers a massive amount of info. For example, it is why you have to put the scientific name for any herp you are shipping on the outside of the box. There was an amendment to the Act passed about a decade ago that involved some/all of the species you mention but I have never worked with any of them and so I do not remember the details other than it is not illegal to import Burms into the US from another country. Not sure how it all shakes out for interstate shipment

Again, I suspect the USARK page should have some info on it

Yes 10 years ago the 5 big guys ban. Was it overturned?

I don’t know about that… But it looks like you do need a state permit to own Retics and burms in Ohio.

You also need a different permit if you plan to breed or sell them.

In addition to the permits mentioned by @armiyana, you’d also be required to have an importation permit and certificate of veterinary inspection. More information can be found here: https://agri.ohio.gov/divisions/animal-health/animal-movement-identification/01-animal-movement-and-identification-movement

As for the interstate reptile ban, it is not currently in action, though they are still trying to make it a thing. Here is a link to the USARK page on the most recent Lacey Act things, as well as the 2023 FAQ: Lacey Act amendments included in House report | USARK - United States Association of Reptile Keepers
