Is this a Vet Visit?

Hey Guys! I wanted to reach out if anyone has experienced this with your ball python. My wife was holding ours this morning. Usual normal handling we take her out for 30min to an hour max every couple of days.

And we noticed today she had a little bit of clear liquid or saliva drop from her mouth today. Not sure if it’s the beginning of a respiratory infection? It’s not regurgitation she had a meal last week. And she gets fed every two weeks. Temps and humidity are good.

I did notice her in her water bowl last night could it be to much water?

We didn’t notice weird breathing, she was tongue flicking like normal. She was curious and exploring. So I’m not entirely sure? Is this a Vet Visit?

P.s I also copied and pasted this on the Pythons chat just to see if I get a quicker response. So I’m sorry In advance if you read this twice!

I would not worry about it. Just keep a close eye her for additional symptoms.

Snakes don’t really have a lower esophageal sphincter, so handling after they’ve had a drink can sometimes lead to reflux/regurgitation of water. As already mentioned, just keep an eye out for any other symptoms that might indicate an RI or other issue. Wouldn’t hurt to have a well visit with a vet at some point either way.

Thanks guys i really appreciate it. I bumped her humidity up just as a precaution. But for sure I’ll keep an eye for any other symptoms.

@bryanf88 I would say that if you don’t already have a vet lined up I would go ahead and find one to be proactive since you have some concerns now. Kind of a “just in case” move.

If you already have a vet that’s great! So glad you are concerned because a lot of people would probably not even notice!:blush:

@caron Thank you Caron , yes we have a vet lined up for sure. But it’s nice to have such a dope community looking out for each other. It eases the mind a bit. And helps before making an expensive call/appointment. Haha… I bumped up her humidity a bit today and been watching her and she is looking good. Normal behavior. She in the cool side right now pretty calm and hanging out. I’m keeping an eye on her temps and humidity and if there’s anymore symptoms or even weird breathing we’re calling the vet. hope you have a great holiday. :christmas_tree:

It’s really wonderful that you’re paying so much attention to your animal. Good for you, @bryanf88 , and good for your snake too! If she’s behaving normally and doesn’t seem distressed, chances are good that what you saw was simply from a drink. It is good that you have a vet lined up if needed.

If your animal hasn’t seen the vet, this is an excellent idea. Maybe you already see the exotics vet for other creatures, I don’t know. If not, developing a relationship with the vet can be invaluable. It can be difficult to get in to see a vet at times. An established client is more likely to get an appointment in a pinch.

@caryl i think this is actually a great idea. To just get in and establish a relationship our snakes and the Vet. :sunglasses::black_heart:
