This morning I saw my female looking like this. Last time she ate was on Jan 18 and I’ve been pairing her with my male since the end of November.
Is this an ovulation or could she still be developing?

Well, since she looks like she ate a football and that’s the classic ovulation visual cue… Yes.
Mark the date. In three weeks she should shed. 30 or so days past that shed she should lay unless she reabsorbs.
Still jealous that BPs have a visual cue for ovulation. Corns get a bit fatter in breeding season, and with practice one can feel the bumps as they crawl over a a smooth cloth laid across the palm, but it is still quite possible to miss it.
Best of luck, @mimemires !
Thanks!
I was able to feel the follicles really easy when they were marble sized, then I didn’t feel them again until they were about the size of a chicken egg and was worried she could re absorb. But now the ovulation is good news.
I was told she was possible yb leopard and 100% het lav and the male is a black head lavender 100% het pied. I don’t think she is yb but could be leopard since is hard to tell on pieds.
I would be happy if she end proving leopard and have some bh leopard dreamsicles. Fingers crossed!
Sounds like you’ll get some pretty babies, regardless.
Thanks you!
Update:
After the possible ovulation I wasn’t able to feel anything inside her like before, like all the follicles disappeared.
A couple days ago I put the male in for a possible final lock and she wasn’t receptive as before. No tail wagging, no moving around him in the terrarium, and I saw he tried 2 times and then they went opposites directions on the enclosure. Before he was able to lock in the first day and she was always super receptive. Is this also good news? Is it normal to not feel the follicles/eggs after ovulations?
I won’t be pairing them anymore and just hope she has her prelay shed soon to have peace of mind and prepare the incubator. I guess I shouldn’t worried as much but is kinda hard since it will be my first clutch.
Following to see what happens with your girl. I went through the same thing with my girl and am still waiting to be surprised if we get a clutch!
I had a breeder buddy of mine feel her and he didn’t think there was anything for me to get excited about.
It seems like she is starting her pre lay shed cicle. She looks opaque and her eyes are starting to look glassy, not in blue yet but glassy for sure. She should be shedding in 7-10 days probably and that would also confirm the ovulation
Saturday was feeding day and I offered her a small rat, showed interest but didn’t took it.
Still looking huge and chunky, now also lumping, even though her last meal was on jan 18.
Fingers crossed for her.
Little update.
My girl right now is in total blue and has been soaking up non stop since last friday.
Her temps and humidity are the same as always, 75% on cold side during the day and a little higher during night, but this is the first time she has had this behavior of soaking.
No mites, belly fully pink. So I hope she has her pre-lay shed in the next few days.
I guess this is the pre-lay soak as Markus describes in his breeding guide.
My girl just had her pre-lay shed. I’m so excited following the process with her and seeing all the behavioral changes.
She and the male for comparison. He’s around 1100gr
Best of luck to you, and we’d love to see eggs and eventual babies when they happen!
^^^ can’t wait to see what she produces!
Since shedding, She has been expending all her time now on the hot side and even under the light. Yesterday I palpated her and could feel a couple pretty large lumps inside her which I hope are her eggs, maybe between 5 and 6.
Just now she noticed me and move a bit to have a better view of me. She always has been very curious and well behaved, and during all this process this hasn’t change. No hissing, no defensive strikes, relaxed when handling (though I have kept this to a minimum to not stress her). I hope she doesn’t get too defensive if she lay I and try to remove the eggs, I build an incubator out of a wine cooler and wouldn’t want her to maternally incubate since this is her first clutch and she haven’t eat since January 18.
It’s been a bit. Any updates on your girl, @mimemires ?
Yes, what I thought was her ovulation was her still building. After that shed she was still spending time on the cold side, and after the 30 days nothing happened and I could still feel the follicles about the same. I put the male again and they lock right after, so I assume she was still building and then on may 25th I saw the real ovulation and this was unmistakable. She had her prelay shed on June 14 and now is spending her time under the lamp and have 2 nesting spots moving the substrate. She is showing the ridge back more and more and eggs should be coming next week.
It’s happening this morning. 32 days after prelay-shed. I’m so excited! so far 2 eggs out
4 good eggs and momma is totally empty and doing fine. Enclosure has been deep cleaned and is airing and mommy is enjoying a bath. She lost 500gr and end up being 1001gr after the lay her eggs.
Awwww, good job momma!
A little tip to hopefully get her back up and eating sooner…
You can give her a nice lukewarm soak and before you take her out, swirl a couple drops of dish soap in to help rinse off the egg smell. That way if she wants to drink first she gets a chance before the soap goes in.
After the little spa day I usually don’t have trouble getting them to eat the next day.
