Hey everyone, I don’t currently breed ball pythons, and I’m not planning to for awhile, however I would like to one day and have been preparing in advance. For me personally, a lot of the larger tubs used for adult females feel a little too small, so I was wondering if anyone had any alternatives that are a little larger? I’ve seen the FB-90 tubs on freedom breeder, and feel like those are a good size for me personally, small enough to be somewhat space saving, especially just for a small collection, but large enough to give them a bit more room. Does anyone have any other recommendations that would work in a rack setup? Finding any kind of large underbed storage has been close to impossible. I’d also like to say I’m not criticizing anyone using smaller tubs then the FB90 for females, just for me personally I’d like to see them a little bigger, and since I’m not planning on having a giant collection, I can afford a bit more money and space. Thanks for any info!
I know some people use the large boa racks
I ended up making my own using bins from Target, which has worked really well. Certainly it’s not going to hold the sheer volumne of snakesthat a traditional rack would, but quantity is never my goal.
These provide room for movement, enrichment, hold humidity really well, area easy to maneuver and clean and the snakes seem to like them. One of my females did a maternal incubation in one this year and I had to change almost nothing, I just gave her a bigger hide to lay in, and it was an 8/8 sucess hatch rate.
If you’re looking for a sliding rack system with larger than 70 series tubs the best options are the 90 series from FB or the ARS equivalent. They’re both nice because they include clear windows for viewing and plenty of room to add hides and other various habitat enrichment items.
The ARS option is slightly cheaper than FB but you can’t go wrong with either if that’s what you’re after.
Hillary’s setup would be a great approach that is far more economical.
