I am a new owner to a Leo. I’m not sure how old Booger is, but definitely still a juvenile. Booger is in a 40 gallon tank with a heat lamp and ceramic heat emitted (no uvb per vets request). At first I had soil substrate but switched to a coconut fiber as recommended the vet as well. I’m not quite sure what my geckos morph is, as i know nearly nothing about geckos until I bought one.
Welcome~
Booger’s a cutie!
Without knowing any history, the best I can really ID your little one as would be:
Hypo - because of the reduced spotting on the back.
And color it a little more tough to nail down. I’d maybe lean towards a pet quality tangerine because of the bit of orange coming in on the high yellow background.
I definitely agree with changing lil’ Booger over to coco fiber. I find that they don’t like the taste of it so they don’t end up eating it and risking an impaction like they can on sand or soil. Just don’t let it all get too damp. You’ll want a moist hide to help with shedding tho.
Do make sure they get their calcium and vitamins though! I like to leave a little bowl for them to lick it up from as needed.
Note to add: UVB is going to be one of the things that varies from owner to owner. Leos are more of a dusk to dawn critter so heavy UV for desert areas they come from shouldn’t be used. But you could consider a lower UV bulb if you want to have live plants or a little enrichment for Booger
Booger used to be significantly darker and after her 3rd shed with me, she’s got more yellow than the brown she used to be!
That’s the awesome thing about leopard geckos. They look so different as adults. =)
