Mainly posting to try to learn what his genetics are, as we purchased him from a pet store because he was in some pretty rough living conditions. They had had him for 6 months and no one wanted him due to his lack of pattern, but I thought he was pretty. I’ve had him for over a year now, and I’m aware he has some stuck shed on his toes, it’s being addressed as we just moved and fell behind on keeping up with his humid hide for sheds. Thoughts on what he is? I’ll see if I can drag up a pic of when I first got him as well.
He looks like a murphy’s patternless.
Seconding the Murphy’s Patternless. I’ve seen the little paradox spot like the one on his neck before in them, but you can also see the faded blotches in the pics from when you first got him.
Sorry guys, that’s definitely not a Murphy Patternless. MPs do not have pattern on the tail at any life stage. It’s a Super Hypo Baldy with some Carrot Tail.
Looking on the marketplace there are quite a few Murphy’s (babies) that have patterning on the tail. The patterns are very similar to ones on the body and the pictures of the younger gecko look exactly like what I would expect, other than the color at the base of the tail, which makes me question the ID.
What do you think would cause the yellow at the base of the tai? Do you think that’s just variation or is there something else?
The yellow base of the tail is technically Carrot Tail, it’s just not very bright.
Interesting. Thank you! And a correction, I’ve had him for about 3 years now… didn’t realize it had been that long!
Murphy patternless absolutely can have grey blotched pattern on the tail. The only reason for it to be noticeable outside of a hatchling or juvie is because of stress or illness. Heck, just casually browse through the listings for sale here. My first Leo was a very dark Murphy’s patternless so she always had that very faint grey color on her tail and blotches around the back of her neck. The tail is hit or miss on the orange. Some patternless Leo’s have it and other patternless Leo’s won’t.
Murphy’s patternless now can be so much brighter than around 15-20 years ago that people can’t remember what the darker ones look like. this was what you would find outside of the heavy hitter breeders.
Originally I spotted this post on my phone and agreed on the Murphy but looking at it again on my computer, I can see the tail having more of a spotted look and not the more blotched look of the patternless.
I still think the body looks like a stressed out Murphy but yeah, maybe a super hypo baldy or the MP. But it really is borderline on that. Only way to be sure is test it to another Murphy I guess.
