Let’s see some Inverts

Tala was in her cave this morning, so I couldn’t get a great look at her before I left for work, but she looked pretty thoroughly covered in babies! I think she’s still got the sac attached to her spinnerets, though. I assume they discard the empty sac once all the babies have emerged, but I guess I don’t really know that for sure. :person_shrugging:

I caught my T. albo, Cousin, mid-molt this morning and snapped a couple pictures as I rarely catch my T’s in the act and in the open. Apologies for any glare as I took the photos from the outside to avoid opening up and disrupting. This individual hardly webs for me so when I saw it webbing an area I knew something was up. Caught it on its back early in the AM.

When I came back a half hour later, it was partially out. For those that don’t keep tarantulas, notice the color of the freshly molted fangs. The fangs will turn from that white color to being their normal jet black over the coming days.

Awesome pictures! My T. albopilosus also recently molted out in the open, though sadly I didn’t catch the molt itself (I just found the molt and molting mat right outside her burrow entrance). Like yours, mine webs very little aside from making those molting mats, so I know she molted in the open where the webbing was.

Great pictures! I did not know that the fangs turn black! There is so much to learn here! :+1::sunglasses:

The fangs turning black is a good indicator of when the exoskeleton is hardened up.

Great shots!

Texas Gold Millipede!

I picked up this little girl today! I happened to have a nice enclosure set up so I thought I would go ahead and fill it! I can’t stand to see anything empty! :joy:

Very cool! Is that one of the species that gets rather large?

I’ve considered getting into millipedes. There are a few species that are very cool-looking. There’s one (can’t remember what it’s called) that has super crazy-looking legs. It’s sort of dark brown with these bright yellow legs that seem to stick out at weird angles.

You’ll have to keep me posted on how you like keeping yours!

Well thats cool. But of course its cool! It is from Texas!

Oh yes I certainly will! They said it was definitely female and handleable but she might excrete a musky little wet trail but otherwise she would not sting or bite. Tbh I don’t know how large she might get but I will accommodate her. I can’t pass up 19.99! Lol! :joy:. Also started eating her fish flakes as soon as I put them in!

Lol Thanks David! So I guess you are “cool” too. Right? Lol :joy:

if you would like any help care wise I can help as I did TONS of research on them. If you would want more they can be cohabbed safely. Also they require a somewhat specific substrate so if you have any questions just let me know

Hungry mamma!

I’d actually forgotten that cricket was still in there. :person_facepalming: But this answers my question of whether or not she’d eat while carrying the babies!

Tala has officially discarded the egg sac, which presumably means that all the babies emerged and are on her back. Her abdomen is now totally carpeted with spiderlings. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I tried to get a picture, but she saw me and skittered into her cave. One downside to keeping spiders who can actually see is that it’s harder to sneak up on them to take their picture. :joy:

Eventually I’d like to find the empty sac and sort of dissect it, I’d be interested to see what it looks like inside. I didn’t immediately see it (it’s possible she ate it), but I’ll take a closer look next time I need to get into the enclosure to feed or refill the water dish.
