Let’s see some Inverts

Super jelly of the lava spider! They’re on my wish list for sure!

I just posted a few weeks ago about getting my first T.
I’m up to 8.
Went to the pet store on Halloween for some feeders and they had a massive discount on inverts so I came home with a GBB:

Very nice!! GBB is definitely on my wishlist. Spiders, like reptiles, can be pretty addictive. I think I’ve shown great restraint in only acquiring 5 tarantulas over the course of about two years (plus a black widow I found at work).

Keep an eye on online invert vendors over the holidays. Lots of vendors will have Black Friday and/or Christmas sales, which can be a great way to get some pricier species for a good price. I was able to snag the lava spider during this Halloween sale, and over the holiday season, I’ll be keeping an eye out for any good deals on a Chilean Flame, which is the main other higher-priced species I’d love to have in my collection (but don’t really want to pay $120+ for a tiny sling). We’ll see! :crossed_fingers:

Hardcore Arachnids (Tom Patterson) is having a big 20% off sale all month, I think.

Don’t tell me that!

Ugh, the Avic finally started making her little web hammock…right where the enclosure breaks in half to open. :person_facepalming::person_facepalming::person_facepalming:

I was afraid this might happen, which is why I ordered another small Treehouse enclosure from Tarantula Cribs this weekend. It should be here in a couple days, at which point I guess I’ll be rehousing her again. I feel bad for how often I’ve had to move her. But I guess I had a bit of a learning curve on how to best house arboreal slings. I hope all this isn’t too stressful for her, but I figure it’s better to move her than to be constantly destroying her den every time I have to open the enclosure. Hopefully she’ll finally be able to get settled in this latest enclosure and then can stay put for several molts.

Got the Avic into her new enclosure yesterday. Here’s a really bad picture of the enclosure. The lighting where I keep my spiders is absolutely awful, so I had to use a flash.

I must say, it’s totally worth the extra money for the new Tarantula Cribs “Switch” treehouse enclosures. The fact that they open from both the top and front is pretty awesome, and makes things a lot easier just to put the enclosure together. I imagine that feature will be even nicer during rehousings. And the removable background is super nice too. Gives the spider extra security, but you can pop it off if you want to look at them back there. Very well-designed enclosure, I’m definitely a fan!

I’m cheap, so I almost got the old version instead of the Switch. But I’m glad I splurged, because I really do like the updates they made.

Oh, I found this on Amazon and it turned out to be even better than I hoped. They call it “substrate,” so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but decided to take a chance. It’s basically just a bundle of relatively small, thin pieces of cork bark. Absolutely perfect for inverts. And because the pieces are thin, they’re super easy to break and make them the perfect size. Best Amazon purchase I’ve made in a long time.

Well, the Avic took a cricket and has already started making her little web hammock, so it seems that three rehousings within about a week didn’t traumatize her beyond repair. Phew!

They are tough little suckers!!!

The Psalmopoeus was out this morning, and I managed to get some pictures. I even managed to capture a bit of her bronze shimmer with the flash. She’s actually out quite often, but if she senses me nearby, she darts back behind the cork. So although I see her frequently, she usually disappears before I can take a picture.

She still needs a name, as do the other two new kids.

She’s really nice Jennifer!

Miss Mathilde, my G. pulchripes, looking pretty. She’s been out all day, so I just handled her briefly. I don’t handle her often, but it’s always a treat when I do. She’s so calm and gentle. For anyone who wants a handleable tarantula that gets big (eventually), this is an awesome species to get.

Hangin’ out.

My lava spider molted! :tada::partying_face:

She took one pre-killed cricket for me and then promptly sealed off her burrow, so I was hoping she was getting ready to molt, but was slightly worried. Very relieved to come home from work just now and see her freshly molted. Grow, little spider, grow! She now has the little tiger stripes on her bum, so cute! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Found another pretty moth at work. Not quite sure why my work seems to be where all the cool moths hang out.

I love the patterning on the legs on this one.

Here is my Nhandu coloratovillosus, the Brazilian Black and White…and yes I had to look up how to spell the Latin name!!

And my Psalmopoeus cambriddgei.

Found this girl out today, moving a molt out of her hide. I hardly ever see her outside! Can’t for the life of me get her booty real big. But she did just molt. Love her purple coloration! This is a Tapinauchenius rasti.

Then there’s Debbie Harry, the Arizona Blond or Aphonopelma chalcodes. Hard to get a photo through the plastic lid.

Awesome pictures, @spottedbull! I almost got an N. coloratovillosus as my freebie instead of the P. reduncus, but I was on a bit of an arboreal kick. I love the look of N. coloratovillosus, it’s definitely a species I need at some point.

I’m kinda on the hunt for the rest of the Nhandu 's as well. I also have the N. Chromatus but it’s just a juvies and hates the camera. They grow fairly quickly as well.
