Let’s see some Varanus set ups!

Also I will say he needs a lot more branches etc in there as there’s no usable climbing space really. And tree fern on background or something…
100% bio with trees and all we’d do…
Not enough for him to climb on at all, but I’ll assume you’re going to finish it and add a lot more for him? x

My V. prasinus setup is small compared to these others! Mine is 6’Hx4’Wx2’D on a 2’ stand that contains electrical, heat, and misting gear. It’s in our kitchen / dining area where they can be more integrated into the family. The viv has a false bottom, automatic misting system / water dish filler and is fully bioactive with powder blue and powder orange isopods - I have not cleaned a monitor poop in 18+ months :). Well, except for when they poo down the glass haha. Our V. prasinus pair is Echo (female) and Blue (male).

The bottom 2/3 is fully wrapped in climbable surfaces and heavily hardscaped with cork rounds and flats as well as integrated hides in the background. The upper 1/3 was painted blue to simulate the sky, but there is a cork tube matrix up there that interconnects and allows them to move about unseen. They spend nearly all their time in the upper 1/3 on the left where their heat lamps and UVB are installed. They also have a water bowl up there that taps into the misting system and flushes each day. Blue roosts in the upper cork tubes while Echo prefers the integrated hides in the lower portion of the viv.

There’s a mix of fake and live plants. I had this planted all nice initially and they trashed it, so now it’s just a pothos and that beat up plant at the base that remain. The pothos is growing up around the fake plants, so eventually it will overtake most of the viv. Maybe in a few years lol. I put this video together about a year ago:

It’s looks pretty, but sorry to say that’s way too small for them… Especially a pair…
Maybe go for a smaller monitor in that size, Ackie, Kimberley, Or defo go bigger…

With Tree monitors you need to go big, have lots of branches to climb on, background etc too which none of you seem to have… The bigger the better… and 4ft deep imo atleast. They’re non stop monitors… We don’t have them as we don’t have the room here to build a 10ft + enclosure, as I could fit that size^ in my house easy, but that’s unfair to them so I wouldn’t do it…

To me this is like me putting My Geckos in 30x30x30cm vivs…

Sorry if this sounds rude to both of you, but there’s either not enough space or not enough climbing branches, backgrounds to climb on etc, so for people to see these posts and think that’s ideal living spaces for trees and they can be kept in small vivs and vivs with basically no climbing areas, I don’t think is ok…

Of course, this was our starting set up. More has been added to it. Let’s not forget what counts the most, as long as your reptiles are not stressed and thriving then your doing a good job. Some may disagree and say they need this and that but at the end of the day as long as they are taken care of, healthy, and thriving - that’s all that counts.

I think in our community it can very quickly get toxic because there are so many different opinions about what is best. As long as your following USARK standards and giving your animals good care that’s what is best. There are lots of good ways to take care of reptiles.

It’s okay if your opinion doesn’t line up with ours. Thank you for the constructive criticism so we can do better.

Thought people would like to see it now

Tree monitor viv will be built on top in the whole space above up to the ceiling, and we will also be adding a mulga viv to the other side! :star_struck:
