(since there is the use of power tools in this image I will add the disclaimer to always use caution while working with dangerous machinery and to know what you are doing while near said machinery)
Got a new rodent setup being built over the past few days!
Years prior of my dad’s carpentry expertise and teaching has finally come in handy for me
Looking to greatly expand my rodent breeding colony with all of the extra space this rack will give, the metal shelving I was using before was great but it didn’t accommodate the production I’m needing for my reptile collection now.
Looking forward to updating the thread with progress!
Welp there I go, I specifically used a caution disclaimer in my post and then turn around and got hurt lmao
Lesson learned though, should’ve worn gloves while trying to unravel a spool of hardware cloth. Darn thing popped open like a biscuit can when I removed the last holding wire and got my thumb pretty good
Me and my hubby (sneak peek of him in the photo lol) have been working our butts off in 100+°F heat just to get this project done today.
This morning I decided I’ve been putting this off for way too long (aside from some personal family matters that came up throwing a wrench in our progress).
Basing off our progress it should be done and set up by tonight!
I need to see if some chicken wire helps with a couple mouse racks if I cover the current screens…
I got a pair of racks for a steal and it ended up being a too good to be true deal after all because they used an aluminum screen of some kind I think? And I had a couple of chewers get through. X_x
Yeah that’s a no-deal. I was wondering about just simple chicken wire (the really thin cheap stuff) and my Hubby instead insisted on the steel hardware cloth
Thankfully it was cool enough in our garage, still a toasty 93°F but we were protected from the sun and had a box fan running so it was tolerable. I cannot wait for fall
I’m pleased to say that just over a month later this new rodent rack is getting some good use
Only a single escape happened and it was by my own error rather than someone chewing their way out. Speaking of which, I’m also surprised to say I haven’t had anyone chewing the bins at all!
A bunch of my females are also having, or have already had, their first litters in the new rack.
