Mistaken identity may explain why male sea snakes “attack” scuba divers

I just read THIS article about Olive sea snakes, and it gave me a bit of a (slightly terrified) chuckle. Apparently some of sea snake incidents could be the result of behaviors associated with the breeding season. I know very little about sea snakes, but I enjoyed the read.

The original paper (HERE) isn’t free of flaws, and I’m too rusty to follow some of the analysis, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. So if you are ever scuba-diving, and you see a zig-zagging Olive sea snake giving you the , don’t try and flee and definitely don’t panic.
