Just got this sassy girl from a trade on craigslist, dude said she was a Strawberry Lavender corn snake, but I believe she is a different type of rat snake altogether.
If you could get photos in natural lighting, that would be helpful to further ID. This is not a Strawberry Lavender corn, you are correct there.
Yeah, I can’t ID what it IS, but I agree with you on what it ISN’T. ![]()
I’m not sure what that animal is, either. I suspect you’re right that it’s something besides a corn snake.
This is a Strawberry Lavender corn snake. They’re not very common.
Yes, I’ve bred and kept corn snakes for 6 years now so when i went to pick up this girl i knew she definitely wasn’t a strawberry lavender but now looking at her head shape and her fierce attitude it is giving some sort of rat snake I’m just lost as to what kind.
Is it just me or is anyone else seeing black rat in the head? I don’t know what hybrids look like but that’s what I keep getting stuck on.
You know, I actually thought the same thing on it maybe being hybrid.
My first thought was ratsnake/corn hybrid. Gray rat was my impression, but that’s not an educated opinion. I’ve been working with corns since 2008 but I am certainly not an expert on hybrids and there’s an awful lot of individual variation with hybridization.
What does her belly look like?
So there are checkers but they’re very light. Weird. That doesn’t go with her topside in terms of corn snake possibilities.
How old is your snake?
I’m still thinking gray rat hybrid. Again, I don’t work with hybrids or gray rats, though I see gray rats around here regularly. Take my impression with the appropriate amount of salt, lol. Coloring might be similar to the one the state of Tennessee posts here.
I would say definitely a rat snake by the shape of her squared like head. Regardless, she’s very cool! ![]()
