Morph evaluation

Hello! I have a question for the more experienced breeders. I bought this male as a “Mahogany Clown het DG”, but I’m pretty sure he has something else making the markings more banded. The same seller had a listing for a different snake that looks exactly like the one I have with an extra gene - so I’m not sure.

Can you tell us what the other gene was? I don’t work with clowns but knowing what it could possibly be can be helpful for someone who is more familiar

It’s possible that this snake maybe didn’t have a high of an expression when they were younger.
It’s also possible that it’s also just general polygenic traits. They’re not something you can pass on perfectly like clown… It could be linebred. So a family trait like the ‘family nose’ and such

The extra gene was Enchi. I can post a picture of the listings. The one I bought for $500 and the other was sold at $750. They look so alike.

Those 2 snakes look like the exact same snake, the pattern even lines up for both.

I’m heavily inclined to say that the photos are of the same exact snake, perhaps just at different ages or in different lighting…

Honestly, @cmsreptiles that’s what I thought I just didn’t want to assume the seller was trying to scam. That’s why I wanted to know if he has Enchi in him and just wasn’t sold to me as one.

I’m breeding him this year so we’ll see if anything Enchi comes out of the eggs. That’s one way to find out for sure.

Those two listings are 100% the same snake, without question. That said…

I’m a little confused as to how getting an extra gene for a lower price would be a scam? By definition, a scam is deception for gain, the seller gained nothing here if they sold you a more expensive animal for less.

If you wanted to find out sooner, there’s always just having him tested for Enchi. If you wanted to save a bit of money on multiple tests, you could have him tested to confirm the het DG as well.
